702I have strong opinions about #Lisp but love S-expressions. I also have strong opinions about video games, TTRPGs, software, and programming in general and I post about them a lot
I like to use curly braces to {group words together} to make my sentences easier to parse. for example, try reading the garden path sentence "the complex houses married and single soldiers and their families", and now try reading it with curly braces: "{the complex} houses {married and single soldiers and their families}"
I try to thoroughly CW anything that I post or boost which might be triggering, or just cause strong emotions like outrage or fear. sometimes I make mistakes but I want to make my posts as safe to read as possible. I even CW when I'm {complaining about} or {making fun of} something in case you don't want to hear a stranger criticize something you love
replying to messages is very energy-intensive for me, so I may not reply to certain messages at all, or it may take me a long time. DMs are especially hard

in games with multiple roles (tank, DPS, healer), fuck the trend of making the healer less healy and more DPSy - and especially forcing them to manage both at once
if I’m playing a healer in a game, that means I love healing in games and want to spend my time healing. it doesn’t mean that I’ve grudgingly chosen to pick healer even though secretly I wanted to be DPS, so the game has to bribe me into healing by letting me DPS too
if anything that just adds extra plate-spinning that I have to manage on top of the healing that I actually want to be doing. so I’m probably going to feel overwhelmed and not enjoy the DPSing
this is a trend I’ve noticed across a few different genres
- TF2 had the medic whose entire job was to heal, but in hero shooters the medic became the “support” who may not even necessarily have a healing ability, but all of them were expected to do a bunch of DPSing
- In the low-level WoW content I’ve played I never felt like I needed to do anything as a healer other than heal. but more modern MMOs like FFXIV are designed with the assumption that the healers will also DPS

kasdeyaI have such a weird relationship to TTRPGs tbh. like I have a deep love and appreciation for some and an equally deep and mostly irrational hatred of others and yet I’ve barely been able to actually play a game of any of them
I was just reminded today that FATE exists and now I’m scrolling through the FATE subreddit and literally getting teary-eyed over this RPG that I might never be able to properly play

like ideally they should be taught about the entire scientific method, what constitutes justified belief, general critical thinking skills, how to weigh evidence, etc. but literally just the concept of falsifiability would do a ton of good

- or, they weren’t cis enough
- or, they weren’t male enough
- or, they weren’t attractive enough
- or, they weren’t neurotypical enough
- or, they weren’t charismatic enough
“professionalism” is a smokescreen for white/cis/male/etc. supremacy

kasdeyathere was a certain era of internet art that I think of as “the Newgrounds era” - where you have a bunch of artists who are suddenly given absolute free reign to make whatever they want, with no censorship or limitations whatsoever, after living their entire lives up to that point in a stifling environment of censorship
and because of this new freedom they of course go absolutely over-the-top on gore, sex, violence, and other types of transgression - just to revel in their newfound freedom. a great example of this is The Binding of Isaac
nowadays we still have that level of freedom on the internet, but 2026-era internet art isn’t nearly as interested in transgression or shock value because the novelty wore off
and lately I’ve been wondering if mainstream art (especially TV shows and mainstream video games) is going through its own Newgrounds era, where shows like The Boys and Peacemaker - and video games like Baldur’s Gate 3 - are going for over-the-top violence and sex and shock value simply because they can, and because they’re reveling in their freedom to do it
if so that has me hopeful that eventually mainstream media will calm down again and go back to being more thoughtful and mature and maybe dial it back down to a 5 or at least a 7, instead of being at an 11 all the time
