software tinkerer and aspiring rationalist. transhumanist and alterhuman

I have strong opinions about #Lisp but love S-expressions. I also have strong opinions about video games, TTRPGs, software, and programming in general and I post about them a lot

I like to use curly braces to {group words together} to make my sentences easier to parse. for example, try reading the garden path sentence "the complex houses married and single soldiers and their families", and now try reading it with curly braces: "{the complex} houses {married and single soldiers and their families}"

I try to thoroughly CW anything that I post or boost which might be triggering, or just cause strong emotions like outrage or fear. sometimes I make mistakes but I want to make my posts as safe to read as possible. I even CW when I'm {complaining about} or {making fun of} something in case you don't want to hear a stranger criticize something you love

replying to messages is very energy-intensive for me, so I may not reply to certain messages at all, or it may take me a long time. DMs are especially hard

complaining about a trend in lewd art
Show content

why would you make lewd art of a character if you’re going to radically change

  • their body type
  • their entire personality
  • the setting/world that they live in

at that point it’s not really the same character is it

fact: the use of 3pp (third perspective pronouns) has been a thing since the first children were diagnosed with autism. this one is just one member of a long tradition. neobot_floof_happy

Linux should really have a standardized way to figure out where the config files are for something

like imagine if I installed plocate and then I just typed wheres-the-conf plocate and it said:

The system-wide config file for plocate can be found at:

/etc/proc/systemd/opt/usr/whatever/

Your user config file for plocate is at:

~/.local/bin/usr/opt/whatever/

The documentation for these config files can be found at:

https://www.plocatedocs.org/config-files.html

when I’m using WSL I basically just don’t configure anything because it’s so much trouble hunting around for where to find anything - and even after I’ve found it I then also have to search for the docs on what options are available and what they mean and that’s just so inconvenient idk

lewd-coded revenge fantasy
Show content

as a succubus every time I fantasize about having power over my oppressors it ends up lewd-coded and I think that can be offputting and confusing to everyone else

but again I’m a succubus - I do three things:

  • corrupt the repressed until they worship at the throne of Lust
  • burn away shame until all that’s left is desire
  • conquer and subjugate oppressors by weaponizing Lust against them

so me saying that I want to trap Republican politicians’ souls inside mindless doll bodies that follow any request without question is completely on-brand for me

I promise they’ll be very cute and convenient household appliances and you’ll never have to think about who’s inside powering it

vampires and blood-drinking, death, thralls, deranged
Show content

if I were a vampire I would simply survive off of the blood of billionaires. I would enthrall some of them and drain others dry and it would always be morally correct to do both

once capitalism collapsed I would keep the surviving billionaires in a little pig pen crawling around in the mud and I could probably make their blood last a good 30 years before I needed to go looking for kinky volunteers instead

Many struggle with writing alt text for charts and other other data visualizations. Amy Cesal's "Writing Alt Text for Data Visualization" hammers home the importance of explaining the chart type, the type of data, and the reason for the chart.

I'm currently working on a digital piece with the following goal: "Put some creatures from the Metroid games, into the world of Horizon Zero Dawn".

Ngl, a really fun challenge!

I wonder what percentage of art is eventually shared publicly on the internet

on one hand I could believe that most of it is. simply because whatever mysterious force compels folks to make art also compels them to share it with as many others as they can

but on the other hand, sharing vulnerable and authentic art (which is the art that I think most artists are most driven to create) is incredibly difficult. in my experience it’s actually more difficult than opening up to someone about your childhood. and sharing art of any kind leaves you extremely vulnerable to attack - which a lot of folks on the internet love to do in response to authenticity or vulnerability. and honestly if one is driven to share their art with others, why not share it with only those closest to them? that would be much safer and more comfortable

so I feel like the answer to the question of “how much art is ever shared publicly?” could be anywhere from “almost all of it” to “a very small percentage”. and I don’t think that either option is necessarily better or worse than the other

stumbling on inconsequential internet drama with no context is so strangely calming

like I found this cute lewd-coded song about being seduced by a faerie and the comments are all like “I knew Elita before I even knew who Melanie was!! stop talking about Melanie this isn’t even her song!! 😡😡😡”

I get angry about a lot of inconsequential things but moments like this remind me that there is an infinite amount of inconsequential stuff to get angry about

and I get this feeling, almost like watching a thunderstorm rage outside my window: chaos and strife has struck close to my life but I’m warm and protected. and the reminder of how I could feel if I had just stepped outside makes me feel even cozier

I wonder if computers are so bad at everything because we’re just perpetually pushing software too far too fast. like maybe if the human race slowed down a bit we could have computers that work sometimes

I’m starting to look at buying an ereader, does anyone have specific suggestions/opinions?

  • I’m only really planning to use this for actually reading
  • I’m primarily interested in a device that can plausibly held in one hand
  • I’m okay with a system that needs some effort/configuration to get it to work well (as long as I can get it there)
