software tinkerer and aspiring rationalist. transhumanist and alterhuman

I try to be very careful about CWing things. sometimes I make mistakes but I want to make my posts as safe to read as possible

I sometimes post NSFW/kinky/lewd things behind CWs. this should go without saying but if you're a minor please do not interact with anything lewd/NSFW that I post

I have very limited energy and am very shy so it might take me a long time to reply to messages sometimes, or I might not be able to reply at all. this is kind of an "output only" account for the most part, but I'm hopeful that I can change that over time

I sometimes use curly braces to {clearly show where a grammatical phrase begins and ends}, like that. you can think of them like parenthesis in code or math, except they operate on grammar instead

also, the last time I posted about Lisp someone replied saying essentially that Lisp is a bad programming language

and to be honest I’m not sure where I stand on Lisp in terms of its quality as a programming language, but I’m leaning towards it being kinda impractical but charmingly simple like FORTH. but I don’t care - I just want to make this thing because it’s fun and I want to understand Lisp better and this seems like a great way to do it (and I already have a much deeper understanding of the difference between a function and a special form! or at least I assume I do. my definitions might be different from the official ones)

in kaslisp yesterday night I finally added 'foo as a shorthand for (quote foo) and omg a lot of my unit-tests are so much simpler to read and write now T_T I had no idea how much of a big change that would have

I was dreading implementing this in my parser because I wanted to generalize it for both lists and symbols, but actually implementing it was surprisingly simple once I had conceptualized exactly what I wanted to do correctly

I’m kinda curious if there are other Lisp prefix characters that I could implement next, but I have a suspicion that ' is all I need for now

also I think I’m getting pretty close to when I can call kaslisp feature complete! and then I can start implementing a kaslisp interpreter inside of kaslisp lol

I don’t want to implement the parser inside of kaslisp too (that sounds like a fucking nightmare lol) so I’ll probably create a Lua-style (dofile) function that I can use to evaluate other files

i often see and hear a lot of talk about community and what it means: its something like a group of individuals with a shared identity or goal that value one another. it’s often held up in an unambiguously positive light and everyone wants to belong to one. i agree – community is wonderful and vital to our survival no matter what the threat level to our existence is. unfortunately, something i think that many aren’t ready for is how messy communities are. we have friends which are closer than others. we have partners that we want to spend most of our time with. sometimes we’re just scared or uncomfortable. there is always that one or few individuals we tolerate or just dont like. some will get jealous, some will feel betrayed. moreover, i think that most individuals belong to communities that they aren’t even aware of.

i value social bonds and community more than anything else. to me, my community is everyone directly in my life, everyone who shares my ideals and values, everyone who shares my struggles, and generally anyone i feel i can positively impact. im told im optimistic to a fault and that im going to be hurt and betrayed. and theyre right – i am. but the alternative is just not acceptable to me. i would rather be hurt for my optimism than to feed the atomized doomerism that seems to be so pervasive. i am strongly of the belief that most individuals want to care for others, want to be cared for, and want to do right by others – even if they fuck up sometimes. i am betting that my faith in others will often pay off more often than it wont.

what i want to see is more faith and trust in others. im not asking anyone to be like me and open themselves up to infinite amounts of hurt and betrayal based on a vague notion that People Are Generally Good ā„¢ – but i would like to see others reaching out to people who they think are kinda neat. or opening up and being a bit vulnerable to that friend who they’re not exactly sure where they stand with, but they wanna be closer. i wanna see just a little bit of faith that others aren’t too busy for you or out to hurt you. not always.

unfortunately some of the effect will be lost because the families in this neighborhood start trick-or-treating at 5pm šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

I just had an evil idea lol. so I live in a white suburban American neighborhood which is full of deeply suspicious Christians. it’s even a ā€œgated communityā€

so for Halloween this year I’m going to find an ornate glass bowl (I’m sure there’s one somewhere in this hoarder house) and put it on this altar cloth that I just ordered

and then I’m going to decorate the whole thing with (fake, electric) candles, fill the bowl with candy, and put it all outside for trick-or-treaters

I have mostly kept my two twitter accounts alive out of some kind of morbid curiosity; watching something that belonged to all of us dismantled and destroyed by ONE idiotic male. But these new changes break the model completely.
āž”ļø Fediverse, brace for another migration.

I want to get a big tattoo of a demon binding sigil, so if anyone asks me about it I can be like ā€œyeah this isn’t my body. I was possessing it and some fucker trapped me here so now I’m just stuck looking for a way to escapeā€ which is honestly not far from the truth

vampire girl that cries happy tears when cuddling with a human for the first time because it reminds her of what it was like to be warm and alive

from then on it becomes a daily ritual to cuddle with her, wrapped in thick blankets. she closes her eyes and reminisces about her old life. sometimes she hums folk songs from her childhood home

@ninafelwitch interesting! that is definitely fair. to be honest I am almost entirely interested in different species for lewd reasons - because of the different abilities that different species have. although I also think it could be interesting to cuddle with a cold creature like a vampire

Something in my house is sucking a *lot* of power and I would like to find it and make it stop doing that. Anyone have specific recommendations for multi-circuit power-usage-tracking devices? (I have 13 240V and 18 120V circuits across three panels, suggesting I will probably need three such devices; the most populated panel has 10 120V and 2 240V.)

Other requirements: ideally #homeassistant compatible, not internet based (currently have devices on zwave and non-internet-facing wifi, adding zigbee soon for unrelated reasons), works with normal US split phase power. Assume I am a reasonably competent electrician and am comfortable putting a current transformer around a wire.

#homeautomation

also it is deeply fucked up that there’s an entire category of mandatory classes dedicated to teaching kids the ā€œcorrectā€ art to appreciate and the ā€œcorrectā€ way to appreciate art in general

I’m so glad that American high schools are forcing kids to memorize math formulas and Shakespeare and historical dates. instead of teaching them:

  • how to find information online and verify that it’s accurate
  • critical thinking in general
  • how to identify that you’re in a cult and what to do
  • how to identify that your parents are abusive and what to do
  • how to budget
  • how to find a job
  • how to choose a profession
  • literally anything about mental health like even just basic grounding techniques or how to recognize a panic attack
  • basic nutrition
  • what is legal or illegal
  • food safety and how to cook food
  • how to identify and avoid dark patterns, common scams, and manipulative capitalist tactics

or oh I don’t know how about ā€œwhat fascism is, why it’s bad, and how to identify itā€. but no I’m sure that the themes and symbolism of Hamlet are equally as important as all of this stuff

@reallylazybear

I think this has a decent impact on the whole thing, too. Streaming has grown widely popular over the last decade, and plenty of newcomers have gotten started, and plenty of niches have developed. Where there was once the big names like PewDiePie, Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, Game Grumps; now are filled with Vtubers, small creators, and indie devs streaming for hours at a time.

We've gone nearly an entire generation now growing up with gaming content having already been a thing, and the younger viewers just aren't going to watch the big names anymore, they're going to discover new creators on their own or from their friends.

What was once a novel avenue to create content, which evolved into fulltime jobs for those that could afford it, now seems to be so oversaturated the medium has nowhere else to go but to spread out and develop smaller communities and niches.

I don't think LPs are dead, but I have noticed that the "barrier to entry" has been raised by the incredible talent over the last decade, whereas the streaming landscape still feels quite varied and charmingly rough around the edges. Viewers stick with a streamer because they enjoy the engagement, not because of how polished their editing is.

actually you know what? let’s make the perfect partner step by step. I’m going to have a series of polls and we’ll see what Fedi thinks would make the best possible partner

I’m not going to do gender this time (unless y’all want me to!) so imagine that this hypothetical partner is whatever gender would make them best for your specific taste

so to start with, which of these categories should they fall into?

after this poll is over, I’ll make a follow-up poll to narrow things down more, and I’ll keep going until we’ve made a whole character
