Android published new APIs that seem to confirm that your phone will phone home when you install apps. It will refuse installation when you are offline or developer got blocked by Google:

so, I have been having this recurring issue where youtube starts buffering like mad around 10/11pm at night. playing 480p and it was stalled more than it was playing, and I have fibre.

Finally found a fix - Chrome mask. This addon for Firefox changes the browser useragent to impersonate Chrome on a per site basis. Once I did that and reloaded its worked perfectly.

Is Google/Youtube doing some fuckery to deliberately break Firefox?

Attention Gen Xers and boomers with registered domain names 🚨

If you, like me, put a fictitious organization in your domain name registration 25 years ago because NetSol or ICANN did not allow you to leave that field blank, recent policy changes will make that organization name the *legal owner* of your domain.

If your registrar has not already informed you of this change, I recommend going into your domain records and removing an organization if you do not have some sort of official ownership of that name just in case there is ever an ownership dispute in the future.

I keep thinking about how much of the liberatory power of the internet came pretty early on in terms of technical capacity. That's not to say nothing new has been worth it, far from, but rather that a lot of good comes right up from with "able to plug a box in somewhere in your house and make hypertext available to others."

It's part of why I find smolweb experiments so interesting, or why I format the microsites that I make using as little fancy stuff as possible. That fancy stuff is extremely worthwhile! But also, there's a lot to be explored at the smaller end, and a lot of advantages to not needing a lot off resources to make relatively simple hypertext available.
