i’m thinking specifically from the perspective of competitive gaming and esports but i think this should be applicable to any competition.

i think there is a general belief that competition is zero-sum: winners feel good for winning, losers feel bad for losing. on the face of it, it makes sense – everyone wants to win, right? why else would they compete against one another? and if everyone wants to win but not everyone can, then the joy of victory must inherently come at the cost of the loser’s pain.

i think in practice this can often be true, especially when playing in ranked matchmaking: valorant, counter strike, overwatch, etc, it’s easy to see this type of relationship between winning and losing. often the losers become very upset and winners gloat. but i don’t think that’s all there is to it, especially when you start playing a lot. often, the winners of a game can be every bit as angry, bitter, and toxic as the losers.

before getting into why losing isn’t an inherently bad thing, i want to look at the flipside of that dynamic: why doesn’t winning always make the winner feel good? surely winning – allegedly the sole purpose of playing – should provide some satisfaction, enough to alleviate most toxicity and negativity that comes with the tension of play, right? there’s a lot of nuance to competition but from my own experience, but i find that people who have a tenuous relationship with their own abilities tend to wrap their self-worth into their ability to play. winning doesn’t feel good because it’s the expected outcome if they’re good at the game. it’s hard to experience the euphoria of victory when it’s the expected outcome of every single game you play. afterall, if you’re good at the game you should be winning right? it’s not an exceptional case, it’s just a confirmation.

from the same perspective, what does this mean about losing? if winning is a confirmation of your ability to play the game, that means losing must mean that you’re not able to play the game. not only did you lose the game, your ability to play is not where it should be.

okay so obviously 4chan is one of the worst places on the internet, for many different reasons

but I actually really like their culture of greentexting for telling (mostly spooky) stories. I often have trouble reading novels or elaborately-written fanfics because they get a little too fancy with the wording and vocabulary and I’m not able to understand what they’re trying to communicate to me, or it just takes so much effort to understand that I’m no longer interested in the story

but 4chan greentexts are incredibly utilitarian and barebones in terms of the words and sentence structures used. they really are just the bare minimum in order to communicate the story, and nothing more than that. to be honest I think that they’re sometimes a little too terse and the phrasing can be stilted, which can add some unnecessary effort in understanding them. but never anywhere near what a lot of “well-written” stories have

also, greentexts tend not to describe things for very long. they’ll say they saw something in the sky that was pure black and shaped like a cigar, and that it zipped away - then move right on to the next part of the story. but a lot of “well-written” stories will spend several sentences or even multiple paragraphs describing something. which, I can’t really imagine pictures in my head (I can vividly imagine touch, and semi-vividly imagine taste and smell, but not vision) so this does nothing for me lol. and I find myself trying to skim past these descriptions, hoping I don’t miss an important detail but impatient to get back to the story

so anyway yeah I actually really like greentexting as a storytelling format. 4chan is an absolutely horrible place though

@Shivaekul tbh a good percentage of them are only huge boobs with no other options lol. but yeah idk I might try one eventually if one of them catches my eye, but so far I’ve mostly just been turned off

and I totally get being turned off by some kinks. there are a lot that are that way for me, like dronification, latex, anything sloppy/messy, and food. plus a lot of (but not all of) the obvious ones that turn everybody off

for some reason it seems like boob-having characters in lewd games are much more likely to have huge boobs than boob-having characters in lewd art (I would guess that at least 95% of female-focused lewd games on Steam give at least half of their female characters huge boobs. in fact I haven’t seen a lewd game on Steam where this isn’t the case)

I think maybe this disparity is because people who are into more reasonable boob sizes are satisfied with SFW-but-sexualized games like Stellar Blade or Genshin Impact. but even those games couldn’t get away with giving their characters enormous bonhonagahoogs, which is the niche that lewd games are trying to fill

either that or way more people are into huge boobs than I thought idk

but yeah anyway I’m mildly turned off by exaggerated body part sizes and I keep seeing lewd games that look interesting but then I see the boob sizes and I’m like “alright no thanks actually”

omg there’s a part at the beginning of Fallout 4 where you get power armor and a minigun and it’s meant to be this big moment that drives home just how powerful power armor is in this game. so for no reason at all they spawn in a deathclaw for you to kill (it literally just pops out of the sewer with no explanation) and I guess I’m supposed to easily kill it and be like “woah - with power armor I can Even Kill a Deathclaw™”

but instead the deathclaw is killing me over and over and I can’t get past this point in the game lol. I don’t even have any difficulty mods installed yet

I can’t wait for people to forget about Expedition 33 because I’m sick of hearing how good it is. it’s like BG3 all over again. yay I love disempowering paintrauma stories and turn-based RPG combat systems. I’m so glad every single gaming-related youtube channel I follow is making endless videos about how great it is just to really rub in how little of mainstream art I can safely enjoy and how nobody is ever going to make art for me instead

I am so fucking tired of having every single aspect of my life controlled by abusers, and just having to roll over and take whatever they want to do to me. my entire life has been like this and there’s no fucking end in sight
