ugh I know that I’m probably not going to like Elden Ring or Doom: The Dark Ages and I might not even like Oblivion Remastered but it’s bothering me a lot that I can’t even play them :/
someone give me a fucking job already ffs
“millennials are cringe” damn right im cringe i didnt survive being a teenager so that i could continue policing myself out of being happy
okay so I’ve decided that I’m giving up on modding Fallout 3 because I don’t want to go through the same content again just because I fucked up on modding the game, so I’m installing Fallout 4 instead and this time I’m going to review all changes through xEdit manually
omg the way that Wrye Bash merges leveled lists is absolutely asinine. it saw that Simple Realism was overwriting the leveled lists of the Fallout 3 master to put less ammo and stimpaks in the world, and it decided that the Fallout 3 master should get to override that behavior and just put all the leveled lists back how they were. and I can’t even find an option to tell it not to do that
to be honest I guess I should’ve just merged all of my plugins manually with xEdit but I really didn’t want to go through that again after spending nearly a month on my modded Skyrim config in the past. but now I’m kicking myself because I put like 5-10 hours into my savefile and got attached to my character and now I might have to start from scratch
I was able to beat the final boss of #DarkSouls 1 a few days ago but I’m ashamed to admit that I used the estus flask exploit to beat the Asylum Demon instead of using the coconut as FromSoft intended /j
lately I’ve been absolutely loving playing #Fallout3 with some basic survival mods
specifically I found one called Simple Realism that makes the game into much more of a hardcore experience with extremely high damage and scarcity of healing items and ammo. the damage is so high that often just one lucky shot is enough to remove 75% of my health
as I play I’m constantly looking out for humanoid shapes in the distance and listening for gunfire or explosions. raiders are dangerous even from moderately long distances, and it’s generally better to give them a wide berth and sneak around them rather than risk being seriously injured or killed
and when I do choose to fight I’m often forced to improvise, set explosive traps for enemies, blindly throw grenades into rooms I can hear speech from, try to lure enemies into choke points, etc. and I love that the difficulty is so high that I have to engage with so many different systems that I would otherwise leave untouched, and approach each situation differently
I absolutely love how atmospheric the world is, and the environmental storytelling really draws me in. not to mention the desperation and tension fading into relief as I manage to scavenge what I need to survive, find a safe place to heal myself, or just barely manage to escape a dangerous situation
after this playthrough I’ve been thinking about trying similar mods for some other Fallout games too. it seems like Fallout 4 has by far the most mods - probably because it’s using the Creation Engine which is a little easier to mod for
Please stop with the anti-masking rhetoric. If you want cops (and ICE) to be identifiable so they can be held accountable, which I do, that can just as easily be enforced by requiring they wear nametags on their uniforms, which is already existing policy in some departments and with the military. There is already a solution to this problem, stop accepting this framing that will be used against us.
you’re browsing YouTube one day when you click the wrong video. their React app gets into a corrupted state and your whole screen is taken up by a frozen loading animation
you try to refresh the page, then try a cache-clearing refresh, but you’re still on the same corrupted React app. it intercepted your requests to refresh and replaced them with itself. you type https://youtube.com/ in the address bar and press enter but it intercepted that too
you press back on your browser, then forward, but you can’t escape that easily. you close the tab and navigate to https://google.com/ but it intercepts that too. you try other websites but the YouTube React app is omnipresent. you close your browser but the YouTube React app has intercepted your desktop environment. you look down at your hands in silent horror but all you can see is YouTube trying to load behind your eyes
as a big fan of Metroid games, I’m kinda frustrated by the indie trend of “metroidvanias” because I don’t think there’s any “Metroid” in them. pretty much every single one of them is a fantasy (or fantasy-adjacent) 2D hack-and-slash game. yes they do have powerups that allow you to traverse more of the map, but that’s just as much of a Castlevania thing as a Metroid thing
so these games feel moderately Castlevania-inspired, but not even remotely Metroid-inspired. and let’s be honest - what they’re actually copying is Hollow Knight. they should be called Hollowvanias or something. don’t get my hopes up by putting the name of one of my favorite game series in there
anyway idk I dislike how these big indie trends keep missing the point of what I like about the games they’re based on. the same thing happened with “roguelikes” where all they took away from actual roguelikes is to have procedural generation and permadeath, and then they made up a bunch of mechanics on top of that which I think are fine but don’t really add that much to the game. when they could be drawing from the rich tradition of actual roguelikes instead
come to think of it, the new Doom games kinda did the same thing where they flanderized what a Doom game is, added a bunch of weird stuff on top, and lost what I enjoy about Doom in the process
#neovim’s showbreak option is so fucking helpful for tracking at a glance where soft line breaks are in a file. I just found out about this option like a week ago (I don’t even think it exists as an option in regular vim? or at least I never knew it was there) and every time I see it in a file I’ll be like “I love this so much”
before this I used to look at the line numbers to see if there was a gap, and that’s how I could kinda tell if there was a soft wrap. but now I just look for the blue +++ which is hard to miss lol
idk I love this editor. at this point I don’t know if I could live without it
I hope Doom: The Dark Ages fucking tanks and out of desperation id software’s next project is to release a heavily moddable remaster of Doom 1 and 2
they’re just like “alright fuck it - we admit that we have no idea what makes these games fun and we’ve just been flanderizing them for years. so now we’re going back to basics to try to figure this out from square one”
Succubard's Library
does anyone know of any more volumes/offshoots to The Lusty Argonian Maid, official or otherwise?
I've read The Lusty Argonian Maid volumes 1 and 2 some umpteen times on stream, but there are only so many times and so many ways I can read those
I discovered The Sultry Argonian Bard volumes 1 and 2, and The Argonian Bard: An Oral Tradition, but I'm hoping there's more out there
#ElderScrolls #Skyrim #Morrowind #Oblivion #OblivionRemastered
I really wish Titanfall 2 had a free play mode or something. it seems like most of the team must’ve been focused on the multiplayer, because the singleplayer is very very short and it has lots of forced story sections that I don’t want to sit through every time lol. I definitely enjoyed it a good bit on my first and second playthrough, but I don’t think I’ll be interested in doing a third
wish i had the “i programmed this huge application that replaces the need for expensive enterprise software” tism instead of “i made this half broken cli tool that’s so specific to this one thing and is useless for anyone who isn’t me” tism
