Wanted to repost this, so I tracked down the original and took a fresh screenshot, because it's important to share.

Long ago, as a kid, I read a book written by a defector from the Soviet Army. It's still an interesting book, I recommend it.

There's a chapter in it about leadership lessons he learned. One is that threats are a sign of weakness, not strength. Threats are what people resort to when they don't have the power to just act. Human beings don't threaten bugs; they just step on them.

So when someone comes at you with threats, keep that in mind. Often the threat is a tell, a sign that the person making it needs to scare you into complying because they can't just force you to.

in my experience there’s an optimal amount of effort for doing tasks. if I feel stressed, rushed, or strained while doing a task, that means I’m putting in too much effort - which is just as bad for the quality of my work as too little effort

I’m trying to learn to:

• recognize when I need a break - or even take breaks pre-emptively
• recognize when I’m putting in too much effort and deliberately slow myself down and/or make the task easier

reminder that to “try your best” doesn’t mean to strain yourself. it means to take the task seriously. when “trying your best” it’s still important to:

• work at a reasonable, sustainable pace
• set definite end points to any work that you do (“I’ll read one chapter”, “I’ll finish refactoring this function”, etc.)
• take frequent breaks
• take a moment to appreciate your work whenever you finish a task

lazygit is so fucking good. I can’t believe I’m only trying it now

I’m learning stuff that I never really understood about git just from playing with its interface. I bet learning to use this would be a fantastic way to learn git in general
