reminder that to “try your best” doesn’t mean to strain yourself. it means to take the task seriously. when “trying your best” it’s still important to:

  • work at a reasonable, sustainable pace
  • set definite end points to any work that you do (“I’ll read one chapter”, “I’ll finish refactoring this function”, etc.)
  • take frequent breaks
  • take a moment to appreciate your work whenever you finish a task

in my experience there’s an optimal amount of effort for doing tasks. if I feel stressed, rushed, or strained while doing a task, that means I’m putting in too much effort - which is just as bad for the quality of my work as too little effort

I’m trying to learn to:

  • recognize when I need a break - or even take breaks pre-emptively
  • recognize when I’m putting in too much effort and deliberately slow myself down and/or make the task easier

@kasdeya Kinda feeling this with the big fishing log in FF XIV. I could stay up longer, I could skip on doing this other bit of content... but the fishing log is long and it isn't going anywhere. There will be new windows even for the low uptime fish. Trying to burn through it now would mean I never get it done.

Been doing a good pace these last couple days. Feeling good about the whole thing, about six big fish per day. 62 out of two hundred-ish for ARR and the first two expansions. After that there are still the other ones left with separate tracker achievements, but I haven't looked at those numbers. The fish will wait, and I'll get there some day. It doesn't need to be soon.
