Was gonna suggest the same thing, vanilla Doom is certainly something that requires a bit of tempered expectations for those unaware of the limitations of the original engine. Limitations which I personally can appreciate given that it's almost as old as I am! Having said that, I can't play the game without free look, and while I respect map devs to not jump/crouch in order to break progression, I do enjoy being able to do them.
Having said that, while I enjoy Duke Nukem 3D, nothing will replace Doom and its legacy for me.
I'm playing "Doom 2" for the first time after not touching the first game in roughly 8 years, and MAN does playing this game make me appreciate "Duke Nukem 3D" even more. I can't tell you how many times I just wanted to be able to jump or to look up and down; things we take for granted in gaming these days. It's almost crazy to think HOW MUCH Duke changed FPSs, adding these now "simple" plus also adding more precise aiming vs in "Doom" where you kinda just aim in the general area of an enemy and bullets just find their way to nearby enemies. Hail to the king baby.

this is the seventh or eight time that Iāve watched this video all the way through which means that by the end of the video I will have spent 28-32 hours of my life hearing about a shitty overpriced Disney hotel and loved every second of it
I am once again watching Jenny Nicholsonās four hour review of a Star Wars hotel that I would never want to visit and that no longer exists
I am in awe at the fact that there is a double-digit amount of porn on Rule34 of Sebulba fucking Jar-Jar Binks
@kasdeya this unit thanks {it recalls[confidence=midhigh] @that} for showing it http://snowme.ws:3
@valorzard ooh from a cursory look at Janetās website, I think I might really like it. thanks for mentioning it!
some random youtube video: āhow fast can you softlock every Animal Crossing game?ā
me, who has never cared and will never care about Animal Crossing: omg I canāt wait to find out
I think itās easy to make fun of me for only knowing Python and Lua (and JS, out of pragmatism) but like, every time I try to learn a new language Iām immediately confronted with so many ugly things about it and after a certain point I just get so disillusioned that I lose all interest in the language. Lua and Python are the only two languages (that Iāve found so far) where the elegance outweighs the ugliness for me. although Fennel is pretty fun too - Iām not sure where I stand on it at the moment
okay Iām going to try learning Clojure one more time but if I canāt get into it this time then Iām going to give up on Lisps forever and move on to either learning an old version of C or F#
itās frustrating because the parenthesis syntax and the āeverything is an expressionā philosophy was kinda growing on me but like, wow these languages are from the 1960ās and it really feels like it too
@rowan I was going to say that C# feels like the javascript of C-like languages but C++ has the same kitchen sink design philosophy of just āthrow anything in that sounds like it might be a good idea at the time and then support it for two thousand years at the expense of everyone who uses this languageā
āletās add a sql-like duck-typed query dsl inside the languageā
āwe should add a keyword that just turns off type checking in our strongly typed languageā
