software tinkerer and aspiring rationalist. transhumanist and alterhuman

I try to be very careful about CWing things. sometimes I make mistakes but I want to make my posts as safe to read as possible

I sometimes post NSFW/kinky/lewd things behind CWs. this should go without saying but if you're a minor please do not interact with anything lewd/NSFW that I post

I have very limited energy and am very shy so it might take me a long time to reply to messages sometimes, or I might not be able to reply at all. this is kind of an "output only" account for the most part, but I'm hopeful that I can change that over time

I sometimes use curly braces to {clearly show where a grammatical phrase begins and ends}, like that. you can think of them like parenthesis in code or math, except they operate on grammar instead

alright that’s enough Linuxing™ for today. this sucks and I have no idea how to even begin to troubleshoot it

me: hey systemd, please run gags.service

systemd:

me: hey systemd, how is gags.service going?

systemd: failed

me: uhh alright so… do you have any idea what went wrong? any logfiles or error messages whatsoever?

systemd: failed

oh man systemd does my favorite software thing where it silently fails and won’t tell me why it failed except for a very cryptic and generic error message that I have to actively ask it to provide

systemd actually has really good documentation, though. which is probably why FOSS-bros hate it so much /hj

okay so I figured out NGINX, I hope. but systemd looks like it’s going to be even more complicated T_T

I just learned about Atkinson Hyperlegible, which is a free font that’s meant to be more readable for low-vision users. I also just really like how it looks and I think it’s clearer and easier for me to read, too, as someone with decent enough vision

this is definitely going to be the new font for #GAGSProject

also I just think it’s cool to have a bunch of different clashing vibes forced together into the same story, so that the author can cherry-pick their favorite things from a bunch of different genres and put them together and the contrast is part of the point

people seem to be getting tired of multiverses as a fiction trope, but you know what? I still think they’re cool as fuck. I love a mind-bending high concept in my fiction. like Greg Egan’s The Infinite Assassin type stuff

@rowan void creature that feeds entirely off of cans of glowing toxic sludge and the souls of internet queers because human food gives it a tummy ache

I know Marvel Rivals still has a ridiculously high player count (even higher than Overwatch 2) but NetEase backstabbed their main dev team by laying all of them off so I think it’s just a matter of time until it dies

@OrionKidder this is extremely important and someone needs to tell this to reddit and Stack Exchange tbh

why is Overwatch 2 the only hero shooter that’s still alive in 2025? of the four that I’ve tried it’s my least favorite

Introvert Islands are pure genius and should to be standard issue in all cafeterias.

Eastern AAA studios only know how to make three different types of games:

  • JRPG visual novel with 200 hours of cutscenes
  • Soulslike
  • Nintendo

@kasdeya there would be ominous music playing over the scene but pulseaudio is having issues

Western AAA studios only know how to make three different types of games:

  • hypersweaty PvP SBMM esport bait with microtransactions
  • basically just non-interactive movies but sometimes you get to do a little combat as a treat
  • Ubisoft

@rowan ohh fuck yes 💙

(there is actually a borderline lewd scene in the novel between two weird cool aliens but the writer somehow managed to make it straight despite the fact that they are literally made out of neutrons and should have no recognizable concept of gender whatsoever)

the difference is that VNs are about People having Emotions but scifi novels are about Cool Aliens that are made out of Neutrons

“there’s this 5-minute queer visual novel on Itch-“

ugghh I hate reading

“there’s this 300-page book about life evolving on a neutron star”
