@mstar agree. parents have no rights because rights are an entitlement to protect you from oppressive power structures. parents are the power structure
also children shouldnt have “parents” in the sense of two dedicated individuals looking after them – they should have a community so that they’re not fully dependent on just a few people

rowani was told that my views on parenting would change when i got older and had kids of my own.
i dont have kids but they did change – i hate parents and nuclear families even more now and still think kids should have full control over their lives

@kasdeya the reason they believe stranger danger is because it allows them to absolve themselves of responsibility and guilt. why feel like it was their fault in some meaningful way when they could instead feel a general sense of guilt detached from any personal culpability? sure my kid was complaining that they didnt like going to gram’s house to be babysat but it was definitely some guy who fits my preconceived notions of a pedophile

@kasdeya no one would have believed it and they still don’t – this is part of why stranger danger was so terrible. it preyed upon an existing anxiety that there are Strangers in your very community like cloaked, mustached villains waiting to abduct your children. it’s much harder to believe that the cloaked mustached villain is actually uncle rob on thanksgiving when all the other adults are watching tv

i hate that we still have artifacts from this time even decades later and i think community trust has only gotten worse since then. we’re also seeing another rise in anxiety of “homosexual predators” except now it’s targeted toward trans people

I must share this because I've been so excited about it! Was waiting (very impatiently) for the artist to post it, but I stopped waiting because it's too awesome not to share.
I had been wanting to commission this artist for well over a year now, and finally things lined up for me this summer.
Many thanks to @animalshapes for the awesome art of my dragon having a pleasant nap in a ruined library.
Sad for a library to be in that condition, but at least it's still getting good use from the local wildlife.
