today I learned that when you’re opening a can with a can opener, you’re not supposed to fully detach the can lid from the can. you’re supposed to leave a bit of the lid still attached to act as a hinge, so that the lid doesn’t fall into the can

you can write alt text for any <div> just as you could for images with the alt attribute, except you have to use title like so

<div title="the sound emitted typically by alinas">woof</div>

then hover over it with your cursor and it will display just as with image alt texts :)

please especially use this when you're a huge nerd about drawing your networking diagrams and charts in unicode or ASCII art like me

Give yourself permission to do it and don't worry about being "good" at it.

Life is short. Creativity is joyful. Just do it! Have fun. Muck about.

If you stick it out, you can get good at it over time, if that's important to you — but it doesn't have to be.

You can just play with creativity for the pure joy of it, too.

If it brings you joy, do it.

I love alt text because when someone is making a reference that I don’t get I can literally just read their alt text and get the reference

also when someone posts a screenshot of something and I don’t know what I’m looking at, I can read the alt text and understand not just what I’m looking at but the context and implications behind it

there are so many posts that I would’ve never understood otherwise, or would have had to go out of my way to google stuff to figure out what they’re referencing, where instead I just get to immediately understand

Second Wind (a group of video game journalists who escaped corporate exploitation at The Escapist and started their own channel instead) is struggling because of YouTube’s new AI system classifying their videos as “mature content”

I’ve been watching their videos almost since they started and they’re one of my favorite YouTube channels. I also really want them to succeed just to drive home that it’s possible for creatives to exist independent of corporate exploitation

so to try to make up for their lost views I just wanted to plug their channel in case anyone is interested in watching videos about game design, reviews for new games, etc.
