software tinkerer and aspiring rationalist. transhumanist and alterhuman

I try to be very careful about CWing things. sometimes I make mistakes but I want to make my posts as safe to read as possible

I sometimes post NSFW/kinky/lewd things behind CWs. this should go without saying but if you're a minor please do not interact with anything lewd/NSFW that I post

I have very limited energy and am very shy so it might take me a long time to reply to messages sometimes, or I might not be able to reply at all. this is kind of an "output only" account for the most part, but I'm hopeful that I can change that over time

I sometimes use curly braces to {clearly show where a grammatical phrase begins and ends}, like that. you can think of them like parenthesis in code or math, except they operate on grammar instead

going to start licensing any code I release with an extra "acknowledge trans rights" clause. don't care if it's unenforceable or "non-free", I'm just spiteful and I *know* it'll upset the most insufferable people alive

Gentle Reminder About Alt-Text mastodon

Remember FediFriends that alt-text actually has a function and should be describing the media you are including in your post.

Please refrain from just writing "image" or "gif" or anything similar (yes I have seen this regularly, and worse).

It's okay if the description is short,
but please write what the media actually represents. For example: "Photo of a tabby cat sitting on a couch."

This is important for accessibility 💚

Here's how to add alt-text to your posts: https://infosec.exchange/@Em0nM4stodon/109323425237412179

complaining more about Rust
Show content

sometimes it feels like Rust was created by

  • looking at every notoriously hard-to-understand language that already exists
  • taking just the parts that are hardest to understand
  • cramming them all together in a single language
  • creating brand new hard-to-understand things on top of that
  • making sure that all of the hard-to-understand things interact with each other as much as possible

fun fact it is actually illegal in 37 states of the US to play American Truck Simulator unless you have a beard and are currently eating a burger

the remaining states have expanded their food requirements to include anything from McDonald’s™ that is served in a bun and has at least 56mg of cholesterol

there’s a 2D indie pixel-art precision platformer on Steam called Jaded (lol) that’s free right now if you want to get it!

it has a slow-motion mechanic that is supposed to let you play at your own pace, which has me genuinely interested to try it, despite heavily disliking precision platformers
