@shijikori that’s fair! it seems like a lot of people do
okay I finally fixed the LSP problems I was having with VSCode
apparently I needed to install a package inside of the Unity editor (which has its own package manager??) called “Visual Studio Editor” and then click “regenerate project files” in the “external tools” section of the Unity editor settings menu
omg so many good Steam sales today!
I’m excited to try Swirl Watch, Heat Signature, Creeper World 3, and Toki Tori 2+. I’ve been wanting to try all of them for months lol
smol tity is good
big tity is good
but very big tity? hyper big tity? that is not good. too much tity
given that Twitter is transparently a Nazi shithole and Facebook is transparently pure evil incarnate, it’s actually kind of nice that reddit is “only” a backstabbing money-hungry company frequented by lots of condescending insecure cis white men. really puts it into perspective, I guess
@raeaw hm that’s good to know! I’ve heard that it is possible in Neovim but the solution sounded really hacky (you have to trick Unity into thinking that Neovim is actually Visual Studio by overwriting the Visual Studio binary with one that runs Neovim) so I haven’t wanted to do that, but I might tbh just because I miss neovim a lot and I already feel plenty out of my element working with both Unity and C# lol
I used to be so impressed by how many degrees of freedom (DoF) a spider has in total. like they have:
and I always wondered how their brains were able to handle all of that complexity - since my brain certainly couldn’t
but then I thought about it more and:
so I’ve already counted what I think is a roughly equivalent number of DoF, but I haven’t even included all of the DoF in my legs, feet, and toes (I think this is around 6, or maybe more)
so yeah I think that my body is equivalently complex to control to a spider’s body - if not moreso
obviously a spider’s brain is much smaller than mine, but it seems like brain size really doesn’t matter too much. it definitely doesn’t slow crows down. in fact I think that thought, creativity, etc. are such new “inventions” of evolution that it comes down more to optimization than raw neuron count, and I think that human brains are probably wildly, shockingly inefficient at doing what they do so well
I used to think that neovim just had really frustrating LSP support that is very fiddly and difficult to get working properly
now I’m starting to wonder if IDEs - in general - are fiddly, frustrating, and difficult to get working
Unity takes all the fun out of game dev and replaces it with C#
the weird thing is that VSCode used to have much more IDE features but they’re just all gone today? for no reason?
and like, if this was Lua or Python then I could live without an LSP but I don’t think it’s possible to write C# code without IDE features - I don’t think the language is designed to be written in a vacuum like that
@bebatjof @Bubotomy @futurebird wait really? a massive underground lake beneath all the dry sand? that sounds so interesting
why is it so hard to get basic IDE features for C#, even when I’m using an IDE that is specifically designed to be used with C#?
I gave up on getting a C# LSP to work on neovim so I’ve been trying to use VSCode, but VSCode seems totally unaware of what methods are available, what certain methods do, what certain types are, etc. all it can do is give me basic LSP hints like “you can make this private because nothing has used it”
so I tried Visual Studio instead and that’s somehow even worse
I hate this language so much, and I hate Unity too
@vivi omg that sounds so unbelievably toxic. I’ve heard of cultures like this - there’s a very enlightening video called Why It’s Rude to Suck at Warcraft about this culture of “we’re going to treat you like a pariah if you aren’t treating the game as a serious full-time job like we are” and it’s so disgusting
@sly_vi oohh interesting! Guild Wars 1 sounds like I might enjoy it tbh - I’m kind of intrigued by the concept of synergies in an MMO. unfortunately it looks like Guild Wars Reforged has never gone below $20? so I’ll definitely need to wait for it to go down in price if I want to try it
I tried Guild Wars 2 in the past and it didn’t really hook me - but I think that’s because I was looking for a solo class fantasy (like how I play World of Warcraft). but I wonder if I’d enjoy it as kind of a hangout game for me and my friends instead - since it looks like it’s free-to-play so they wouldn’t need to buy anything
also I love how much representation it has! that’s amazing. and I’m glad you’ve had such good experiences in both games too
my ideal job would be one of those witches from fairytales that gives people ironic curses
like the next time I hear a techbro say “homeless people deserve to be homeless because they probably just don’t want a job” I want the power to instantly transform them into a black trans girl living out of her car
ISOLATION
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isolation_to_facilitate_abuse
A common way abusers gain control of their victims is by removing their ability to talk to others and recalibrate their sense of normality. Without a reference established by talking to people in healthy relationships, the victim is less likely to realise that they're in an abusive situation.
Example: V and R, who are solid, healthy friends, have a minor disagreement that causes a little temporary friction. V grumbles about it to A. A tells V that not only is R definitely in the wrong, but that it's really weird and unreasonable of R to go there, and is V really sure that R has V's best interests in mind? A exaggerates a minor grumble into a wedge issue, with the goal of getting V to spend less time with R and more time with A. A simultaneously criticizes V's other friends (maybe suggesting that they're all supporting R over V). Later, after V and A cool down from a screaming argument, A tells V it's natural for such a passionate relationship to have the occasional shouting match - and V, having withdrawn from their friends, has nobody they can ask "Is this normal?"
@sly_vi that sounds like a really good approach! I love OSRS, which also has horizontal progression (but in a different way), and I’ve always felt like horizontal progression was a very under-appreciated concept - especially for MMOs
