software tinkerer and aspiring rationalist. transhumanist and alterhuman

I try to be very careful about CWing things. sometimes I make mistakes but I want to make my posts as safe to read as possible

I sometimes post NSFW/kinky/lewd things behind CWs. this should go without saying but if you're a minor please do not interact with anything lewd/NSFW that I post

I have very limited energy and am very shy so it might take me a long time to reply to messages sometimes, or I might not be able to reply at all. this is kind of an "output only" account for the most part, but I'm hopeful that I can change that over time

I sometimes use curly braces to {clearly show where a grammatical phrase begins and ends}, like that. you can think of them like parenthesis in code or math, except they operate on grammar instead

@tempest omg this is especially frightening because this is all possible with current technology and could easily happen with a misaligned AI

but yeah there’s a whole genre of videos that follows this kind of format - a lot of them are formatted like a series of EAS messages

@kasdeya So...

If you are going to be switching to a firefox based browser maybe don't get rid of your old one right away if you run Linux and need to use Teams.

I learned the hard way that LibreWolf has some fucking bug that causes Teams to not work correctly and there's actually no Linux client for that stupid ass "communication" software.

Otherwise...fucking go for it. I keep Brave around for Teams now. We're back to THAT.

go inside your homes. there is alien zombies out there. do not answer the door. the alien zombies can imitate voices and they’re smart manipulative bastards

do not look at the alien zombies or they will transfer a copy of their consciousness into your mind it’s super fucked you will wish they just killed you. actually just board up all the windows or like huddle in the basement just be out of line of sight of the zombies

we’re pretty sure the alien zombies are the spawn of zorkathoth. we’ve got a team working on it give us like 48 hours

a lot of you will definitely die. shelter in place good luck

@axolotl @konstruct I don’t know too much about this unfortunately but I’ve heard people say that it isn’t as safe as 1337x? I have no idea why - maybe the moderation isn’t as active?

@emberquill oh, thank you! to be honest I am very intimidated by immutable distros after having some very frustrating experiences with Docker and Snaps (although, I’m able to use the latest version of Neovim on my Ubuntu WSL because of an appimage! so that’s pretty nice)

and also because I guess I feel like the immutability will be an extra layer of complexity that I’ll need to understand

but I also really like the concept of an immutable distro because, like you said, if I break something while trying to fix something else I can (I assume) hit undo in some way and revert that change which sounds perfect for me, because often when I’m working with Linux I am just Very Done with dealing with whatever is broken and I’m doing the command-line equivalent of pressing random buttons lol

I love living in a country that does not guarantee that my basic survival needs will be met unless I have a decent job, but that also does not guarantee access to a decent job. this is a fair and compassionate system I hope it’s around for a very long time

“but kas”, says the capitalist, “you are skilled but uncharismatic to white cishet men and therefore deserve to wither and starve in a dark corner where I can’t see you”

and to that I say, “I will enjoy your public execution in the years to come”

terminally online queer spaces are my favorite. its the only place ive been where someone will make a nuclear astrophysics joke that requires 6 phds to understand, and then a voidpunk demon catgirl named “girlslop :3” with cat/cat pronouns info dumps about it in the replies with more accuracy than some technical manuals

then its cwd with “re: lewd flirting” for the last 10 replies

@emberquill that is fair! I feel like I must have good luck with Windows, or maybe bad luck with Linux, or probably both. because I’ve had many very bad experiences trying to get Linux to work and to keep it working. but I’ve been using Windows 11 for about 3 months and my only problems so far have been:

  • I needed to run O&O ShutUp 10 at the beginning to disable any spyware/adware (it sucks that this is necessary but at least it’s easy to do once you know the name of the tool)
  • the built-in night light is borked so I can’t use it, so I installed f.lux instead

I’ve heard about updates resetting settings but thankfully I haven’t experienced that in any version of WIndows as far as I can remember. in older versions of Windows like 7 and 8 the forced restarting could be annoying at best, but on Windows 10 and 11 I haven’t had any problems with this thankfully (though it’s still anti-consumer of them to force updates at all). I feel like my ideal operating system would be something that is as easy/simple for me to use as Windows, but that’s FOSS like Linux so it doesn’t have a bunch of adware and spyware in it. I hate having to use commercial software that’s packed full of adware and spyware to be honest, but at least there’s a tool that lets me disable it all I guess - and once it’s disabled it’s definitely the best OS for my needs

one of the things that makes Linux such a good alternative to Windows 11 - especially for non-technical users - is that every time you update it there’s a random chance that something important will break and the only way to fix it is to spend several hours deeply learning and then applying esoteric technical information while relying entirely on arcane command-line tools from the 1970’s that were never intended to be used by anyone outside of a small and highly technical ingroup. this is ideal for average people with busy lives who just want to send an email or watch YouTube before bed

throwing the subby puppygirl web devs a bone here: a shadow dom(me)-based html templating system

it’s honestly really basic but it supports serverside and clientside templating using a custom puppygirl-domme element.

i want to eventually add modules that allow for embedding/parsing more complex stuff rather than just simple template substitution, but its a start

(im using this to build another site so im sure ill add stuff as i need it lmao)

@konstruct I love that it’s possible to contribute! I’m not sure if I’d have much to add that isn’t already available on the site but if I find anything that I’ll definitely add it!
