I spent this whole weekend attempting to get QEMM and DesqView/X to run. But all I got was a wild adventure through the first Mb of ram instead. Which is a shame. I find it really special that dos was an operating system that was able to run an X11 windowing system.

I've also played more around with #vim but vim-plug does require an actual executable of git to get off the floor, so there goes my dreams of having my dream vim setup on dos right off the bat. I may have to consider writing my own #dos vim plugin manager that would curl the packages as a zip/tar and extracts them within the vim directory.

Then I'm sure there's going to be the fact that not that many vim plugins were made with DOS in mind.

Dos has its work cut out for it - that's for sure. I should probably document what I've been doing to bring the OS to relevancy cause I believe Dos is still fun and worth playing around with. More folks in Gen-Y and younger should give DOS a chance. Not in a serious sense, that's something that I feel Linux definitely deserves over Windows. But in a personal sense. There's lots that people can do to leave their mark on DOS much in the way that in the day of social media and in vibe-coded software, people still make their own websites and their own software by hand.

There's something to it with the fact that DOS has becoming vintage software that makes it worth exploring again. I cant quite put my finger on it but is sparks something in me.

Been trying my darnest to get my favorite #vim setup to work on my most favorite OS. floofHeart

I figure I share anyway because despite the failure I'm facing now, we really gotten over a few roadblocks in setting up networking and pulling data over https.

curl doesn't have the means to pull data from https out of the box because it lacks the means to generate sufficient randomness for SSL. To correct this, you need a dedicated random$ device driver.

#freedos has the noise driver available for the i386 and Pentium x86 cpus. You get it from the lynx web browser package. Then load that from FDCONFIG.SYS

Unfortunately, I'm now butting up against the fact that vim-plug works with git, and there's no official git app for DOS at this time. I wonder if I can fake it by making a script within %PATH% floofTeehee

@kasdeya Not as verbose, but 'which' can describe where apps are installed if they happen to be on your system.

Satisfactory Content - Something I did this weekend
Show content
It's a water packaging plant. Takes 9,600 empty canisters a minute, and makes 9,600 packaged water.

I gotta do this three more times and it should take care of all my water needs for the rest of the playthrough

I’m only doing this for the deluxe game skin. Absolutely worth 2 extra years finally making it from unranked to ranked. The hard part is managing to win four times.

Anyone wanna get this shirt for me? It's ironically good furry merch. They literally have a wolf logo on it.

I finally got a separate VM Environment up and configured just for Docker.

And with that dedicated docker environment, I finally check up on @freedosproject ‘s Builder RBEv4 neodog_cool

So far, it seems to just pull in projects, not build the install media. I should get more familiar with this branch before adding my touches to it.

FreeDOS Builder RBEv4 is available here:

Boston, Massachusetts, am I right?! I'm so inspired by the Big Dig I had to add a big massive tunnel that's over budget and should have been another train network, but let's just cater to fossil fuel infrastructure to this game map.

Later developments planned for this underground area will be a rocket fuel power plant and a race track
