I love poe2’s combination of “so many fucking particle effects at the same time that it’ll bring any machine to its knees” and “very tightly timed dodge rolls that you have to just read and time correctly.
The Aether has its livery again!
Still some work to do on the cockpit interior, some details like the front of the intakes and where the light from the headlamps points, and paneling and weathering.
But we're getting there!
A post was shared with me and I had a vision.

“Microsoft would really like for you to stop calling what they are doing slop”
Lol, that’s cute. I forgot where and when I asked for the megacorps opinion tho?
Microslop! Microslop! Microslop! ☺️
Y'know, everyone knows about the Gadget Hackwrench cult, but I don't have any evidence that it ever amounted to more than one meetup among Russian fans with kind of a funny gimmick. To me, the most inexplicable things about the fandom in retrospect are:
1. It's perhaps the most homophobic fandom I've ever seen, to the point where actual stills from the show was deemed too gay to be posted. This wasn't uniformly the case, of course, and there was a lot of resistance. The owner of the RRdatabase did some hosting shenanigans to be able to showcase gay CDRR art while remaining technically allowable to be linked to from the main forum.
2. There was an oddly big overlap with the star trek fandom and multiple fans had their own fantasy shipyard and would roleplay as starship captains. The only connection this show has with space is that they meet aliens in one episode and end up on a space shuttle in another, that's really it.
3. The longest thread on The Acorn Cafe was called "Poke", it was a link to a Flash game where you poke a penguin until it explodes. It turned into the lengthiest forum roleplay thread I've ever seen, with multiple distinct phases and storylines, some of which being more like a freeform paintball fight and other being more like a star trek adventure. I'd like to think it's still going.
4. The fandom fell apart circa 2010 basically a solid majority of the remaining fans became obsessed with My Little Pony instead.
5. The 2022 live action movie was so bizarre it caused many in the fandom to get back together after not having talked in a decade just to be able to discuss the burning question of "what the hell was that?"
the post game items in Super Climb Up!! are all completely above board, nothing shady at all about the place you buy them from or the lovely shopkeeper who sells them to you, right?
I derailed an entire Steam discussion thread by using the term "cisgender". At which point, some dude came in and said that this was a slur. I have left only one comment on this whole post, I haven't interacted back. There are now three additional pages under that post exclusively arguing about this.
Meanwhile, I am gone, sometimes checking back on my spawn, not knowing if I should be proud or afraid of the consequences I have unwillingly summoned.
Fight, my beautiful cis gamers.
Bleed for the honor of this trans girl, or dishonor yourself by standing with those that would call this a slur.
I will be watching, knowing that all men shall fall in the end.
I got a bunch more motion sensors and I've been putting them around the house so I can program Home Assistant to do stuff like turn off lights in rooms that aren't being used, turn on lights when we're going downstairs with hands full of laundry, obviously just flipping a switch is easy but in some rooms the switch is on the opposite side of the wall and if I put a button on the entry-side then I don't trip over the cat, telling the water heater to get hot before we shower, having a $10 smart plug tell me when my 80's washing machine has finished, having a button to make the lights go cosy, y'know just nice helpful stuff that I do because I like making the house better for my spouse and kid and as I was putting up all these motion sensors I was thinking,
man,
there's NOTHING in this program to detect when it's being used for evil
And like there really should be? Like someone could legit fucking torment their family with this, this could be used as a tool of manipulation and control and fostering the abusive sort of dependence
And then I think of how me and spouse are moving away from google and onto like self-hosted stuff, nextcloud and searxng and xmpp and shit like that, and I can't help but think, *know* really, that right now there's someone controlling their intimate partner with those same technologies, like something that's supposed to be liberating you from corporate-style General Abuse is being leveraged towards a form of very focused abuse against you specifically by someone on whom you depend
I don't think enough software devs spend enough time thinking about how their projects can be used to hurt people
Has anyone smarter than me written any long posts thinking about this and what we can do about it
if I ever learn C I’m going to use Jinja as my preprocessor
this is a threat
going to make a “what is your drone name?” quiz that asks a bunch of invasive questions about kinks and submissiveness before assigning them a freshly-generated UUID
the psychological profile will aid in their conversion
if you talk to someone whos ten years younger than you, you're like "so i was playing this puzzle game" and they're like "puzzer? puzz game? whats that. what is a puzz" and youre like "oh sorry i meant Metroidbrainia game. anyway it was pretty difficult" and they're like "differult? sorry im not familiar with that word" and you're like "shit yeah, sorry. i was playing the game and it was pretty Soulsvania. there were these random parts.. uhh, i mean, Roguelike parts"
When I was a teenager in the '90s, my boyfriend at the time gave me his old skateboard.
The trucks and wheels were fine, but the deck was heavily used and the design had been scraped off most of the bottom, so I took some paint markers and decorated it by painting a black and white checkerboard background with a large stormtrooper head in the foreground because Star Wars and ska were two of my favorite things at the time.
I was mostly just a poser and barely rode it and it remained in the back of my car for several years until I was at a sporting goods store and saw a kid doing tricks on a demo deck and I told him he was really good and he said "Thanks! I have to practice here because I don’t have a skateboard."
At that moment, I remembered my backseat skateboard and told him he could have it, but warned him that the "graphic" was kind of nerdy so he was more than welcome to draw/paint over it.
I went out to my car and grabbed the skateboard and brought it to the front of the store where the kid was waiting and he flipped it over and said "Whoa! Star Wars and ska?!? These are two of my favorite things!"
I’m so glad that skateboard finally found the right owner.
