software tinkerer and aspiring rationalist. transhumanist and alterhuman

I try to be very careful about CWing things. sometimes I make mistakes but I want to make my posts as safe to read as possible

I sometimes post NSFW/kinky/lewd things behind CWs. this should go without saying but if you're a minor please do not interact with anything lewd/NSFW that I post

I have very limited energy and am very shy so it might take me a long time to reply to messages sometimes, or I might not be able to reply at all. this is kind of an "output only" account for the most part, but I'm hopeful that I can change that over time

I sometimes use curly braces to {clearly show where a grammatical phrase begins and ends}, like that. you can think of them like parenthesis in code or math, except they operate on grammar instead

I just configured TST (Tree Style Tabs; a vertical tabs extension for Firefox) to use a high contrast theme and I also disabled all animations (including throbbers when a tab is loading) and it is so much nicer now

the high-contrast theme makes TST a lot uglier but so much nicer to use

and now when a tab is loading, it shows a non-animated hourglass icon instead of an animated throbber. I didn’t realize how much the throbbers were stressing me out (I think animated UI elements can overstimulate me very easily. sometimes even just bright-colored UI elements trying to get my attention can do this to me) until they were gone, but it’s such a relief to have them gone now. my browser feels like a gentler place

I know these don’t sound like big changes but they really feel that way to me - especially disabling the throbbers

omg I’m not sure how I feel about this game lol. it sounds like it has a lot of OSRS DNA in there but it’s also got the JRPG “whittle down health bars for way too long” and some Animal Crossing in there too? plus it seems to have the dreaded scrolling dialog boxes. I might give this game a try at some point though because I can see a lot of OSRS in there and it looks like it might be really good despite my reservations

“if you could take a time machine to any point in the past-“

no

“okay but wouldn’t you want to visit-“

no

the past is literally just the present except way worse across the board. I don’t think people appreciate just how much better we have it thanks to cultural and technological progress. now would I want to visit the future? yes please get me the fuck out of here

Have you seen this new application? It's written in N. It literally uses Cerium. It's on Squernix with Wine. It's literally written with Zark. You can probably install it with Woo. Dude it's built on Birdnest. It's a Garkle exclusive. It's for Borp. You can run it on Borp. You can boot up Borp and run it. Log onto Borp right now. Switch to Borp. Dive into Borp. You can Borp it. It runs on Borp. Borp runs it for you. Borp runs it for you.

Does anyone have *any* of those. online "learn programming" type things they like and would actually recommend?

I've not been a professional software developer for well over a decade, and the last code I wrote other than my own personal stuff was mostly just fixing up other people's HTML/CSS/JS, not starting from scratch.

Hoping for something that doesn't shove AI slop at me, and ideally something for either Ruby or PHP.

I've tried boot.dev -- it's fun, but Python and AI slop in places now.

Other than that it's a pretty good car...

Very good points, a reply to a CEO who wondered why his engineers were resistant to using LLMs for coding:

I love when you update one piece of software and it breaks compatibility with a whole ecosystem that you didn’t even realize was depending on it. especially when there’s no way to downgrade. that’s the best

A special pride callout to anyone in the closet, anyone just considering their queerness, any queer person in a straight passing relationship, among others. A call to anyone not displaying a beautiful part of themselves out of necessity, fear, or circumstance.

I’m so fucking proud of you. The world is more beautiful with you in it.

I got 3 hours of sleep last night, but I had to fight for every second of it, in the ruthless gauntlet that is my bed. this is definitely a healthy attitude that I have towards sleep; I’m so glad that I’ve learned how to relax and not live perpetually in fight-or-flight

last boost: okay in retrospect it does make sense why Kitsune Tails would be a jump in difficulty compared to Mario 3. because if you want Mario 3 with reasonable-to-difficult platforming then you can just play Mario 3. Kitsune Tails was probably made for Mario 3 fans who have played that game so much that what they want is something even harder, to challenge them

unfortunately I want Mario 3 with reasonable-to-difficult platforming and lesbian fox girls. but I’ll have to settle for just the first part

I hope I never become a reactionary with age. in 2137 when uplifted orcas are fighting for the right to marry their own clones I hope I’m fighting right alongside them
