software tinkerer and aspiring rationalist. transhumanist and alterhuman

I try to be very careful about CWing things. sometimes I make mistakes but I want to make my posts as safe to read as possible

I sometimes post NSFW/kinky/lewd things behind CWs. this should go without saying but if you're a minor please do not interact with anything lewd/NSFW that I post

I have very limited energy and am very shy so it might take me a long time to reply to messages sometimes, or I might not be able to reply at all. this is kind of an "output only" account for the most part, but I'm hopeful that I can change that over time

I sometimes use curly braces to {clearly show where a grammatical phrase begins and ends}, like that. you can think of them like parenthesis in code or math, except they operate on grammar instead

i'm looking for recommendations on (web)comic / manga with queer couples (ideally women) who also have kids (either from before the start of their relationship or after)

it doesn't need to focus on their parenthood although that would be a plus

rn the only one i know is Motherlover (https://motherlovercomic.com/comic/welcome/) which is good but i'd like to know more than one comic like that ^^'

(boosts appreciated)

fuck the concept of only having one name for your whole life. peoples’ names should evolve over time, like a Pokemon:

  • Robling
  • Bobbert
  • Robertio

This iridescent, dendritic (from the Greek word "dendron," meaning "tree”) crystal likely formed from volcanic gases released from a volcanic vent, or fumarole. This crystal is from Eifel Mountains, Germany. Perovskite can be beautiful! More at the comment below.

a stopped clock is right twice a day. if you have 720 different stopped clocks, one of them will always be right, and knowing the time becomes a simple matter of finding a way to identify which one

User Interface Wrapped

  • You spent 23 hours using an analogue stick to drag a cursor around various AAA game menus
  • You accidentally clicked the wrong button because an element loaded in above it and pushed it down suddenly 58 times
  • Your password manager autofilled your username into the wrong field 126 times
  • You clicked "remind me later" on a dialogue box you'd rather never be reminded of 96 times
  • You made 6,834 minor typos that were caught by autocorrect
  • You made 532 typos that were caused by autocorrect, including 56 "duck off"s and 22 "go to he'll"s
  • You checked the "remember me" box 87 times, and it actually worked 21% of the time
  • You only ruined a mailing list thread by clicking "reply" instead of "reply all" once - but you'll be thinking about it for the rest of the year
  • You spent 3 hours typing search queries into an alphabetical on-screen keyboard with a TV remote

going to go back in time and kill whoever decided that a “good” story should start off relatively light and then get darker and more harrowing over time. this cultural expectation right here is the bane of my existence

@OllieBranch omg yeah I didn’t even consider Left 4 Dead! I guess a lot of older multiplayer games are like this tbh. like TF2 is like this too (edit: oop I forgot that you have to unlock weapons :/)

and I’m happy to’ve given you some more games to check out! I hope you like some of them

most video games: alright asshole shut the fuck up and listen to this in media res dialog that you’re not supposed to understand. the cutscene is unskippable and 20 minutes long btw. after this you’ll be forced through a bunch of linear scripted scenarios where you barely have control over anything that happens, and then maybe things will open up into a Ubisoft sandbox but we’re still going to take control away again the second a Story Thing is scripted to happen

peak video games: how do you want to play today? you can pick anything you want! there are even console commands and mods if you want to play through a really weird scenario that the dev could never have imagined!

some other games that are like this:

  • most rhythm games (I fucking love the demo for Dead as Disco as well as Clone Hero)
  • the White Knuckle demo, kinda
  • Creeper World 4 almost. I don’t know why it tried to have a story I’m ngl. I feel like the dev added it out of a sense of obligation because most players expect games to have stories
  • PowerWash Simulator does have a story and it’s batshit insane and I actually love it, but also the story is completely optional. it has some progression elements though which is :/

I think my absolute favorite type of game is:

  • a Really Good core gameplay loop
  • the main menu basically just asks you what level you want to play and what mutators you want to play with
  • there is no story and no concept of a linear campaign. there is only Game
  • no skill trees, no XP, no unlocking new weapons, no unlocking new gamemodes or mutators. there is only Game

I’m specifically thinking of GZDoom mods and Severed Steel as I write this. Severed Steel technically had a campaign and technically had a story but they were really just excuses to have levels sorted by ascending order of difficulty for first-time players which I actually think is a great idea

I’m also thinking of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 but I did just remember that that game technically had a story-based campaign too - it’s just that it was one of many different options for how to play the game

extremely dishonorable mention to any game that requires you to go through its linear and heavily story-driven campaign in order to unlock the free play modes

there should be a plural of “y’all” for referring to more than one plural system
