Being in a hive mind I imagine can be much like existing within an anarcho communist community.

Imagine pulling a 4 hour shift spreading the good word of communism in a featureless synthetic rubber dog drone and then leaving it to join a network of individual consciousness you call a third place where knowledge and company are readily available.
You don't have to stay in the hivemind if you don't like the third place that much. But you imagine if everyone that does leave at their own free will - can and is able to do so, then those that do stay around share something that goes beyond one's own self.
The community which has no hierarchy begins to take shape on the networks of expertise which gets shared around the third place quite easily and instantaneously. It will start to look like a community, which has a shape and behavior of its own at the macro level, even though it's extremely diverse at the individual level.
