youtube's adblocker war (they gave up on blocking me)
Show content

lol youtube decided to give up on blocking me from watching videos, even though I’m still using my adblocker. I think they must’ve realized that I was just using FreeTube instead

just remember that if a company tries shit like this on you, you can outlast them. they’ll probably only block you for like a week, maybe two. don’t turn off your adblocker and give them what they want - starve them out and they’ll relent

@kasdeya

I'm puzzled about all this YT talk about add blockers, because I ever experienced any problem ever. (uBlock orgin)

@Kaution I use uBlock Origin too! I think they’re A/B testing adblock users, but they’ve tried to strongarm me into disabling my adblocker twice now, and this is their second attempt which is much more forceful than the first

basically instead of loading videos, I got a screen saying that using an adblocker is against the ToS and I have to disable it in order to watch the video. so I just copy-pasted youtube URLs into FreeTube instead

@kasdeya

The odd thing is that I NEVER had ANY issues EVER: Just by pure chance I should have had some problems at some point.
It's great of course, but I'm still confused.

@Kaution @kasdeya uBO has a pretty quick response when YouTube changes up their anti-adblock. It usually stops working for a few hours at most every few weeks so you might just be missing it.

@Kaution I wonder if you’re in a country that gives its citizens legal protection against tactics like this? either that or you’re just very lucky lol

@kasdeya I honestly do love freetube and I hope that ad based services fail completely. The pure greed of taking up space, wasting all these CPU cycles and bandwidth to track people, all to deliver 5 seconds to 25 minutes of [nothing] that makes you even less interested in [nothing], it needs to burn in a dumpster.
