@eclairwolf It still boggles my mind that there are people who not only can casually afford buying this, but also act like everyone who plays pc games also can/should
@SimplyTadpole @eclairwolf Video cards the same price as a functional used car.
@SimplyTadpole yeah it's wild
like, what the fuck could they even be doing to justify buying 2200 earth dollars of gpu?
@eclairwolf I built a PC in November because I figured Something Like This would happen and even the one-generation-behind card I got has gone up like 40%.
@matoakit @SimplyTadpole and the used car's probably not gonna randomly catch fire, unlike an xx90 nvidia card
@eclairwolf my current strategy is to have friends that get the latest GPU and give me their old one
@pixellight the "having a rich friend" strategy was how i got a 9900k for free back in 2021
@eclairwolf @matoakit @SimplyTadpole I think you mean 50xx. As far as I'm aware, the 40, 30, 20, and 10 series didn't have any issues with the power connectors sparking up.
@eclairwolf @matoakit @SimplyTadpole I think I heard about a couple 40 series cards with melted connectors, but no reported fires AFAIK
@matoakit @SimplyTadpole @TheMNWolf yeah 40 series cards got the same "fun melty cables with little/no current sensing" issue
@ilobmirt if they're miners im praying 4 12vhpwr cable related oopsies
