@parisba so, for convenience you put your whole digital life in a trap and now you are complaining that you are trapped? Trusting in a single company (regardless of apple, google, microsoft, atlassian, etc) is - frankly speaking- stupid these days. Go and free your digital life with Linux, OSS and Selfhosting. This is not convenient at all, but it's much better than being a digital slave from big-tech

@DG1JAN @parisba

woooooooow, that’s incredible that you would respond like that to someone. Someone is in clear distress and instead of offering empathy or condolences — or just scrolling on — you thought it would be a good idea to be smug about someone else’s misfortune.

It doesn’t matter if you think you’re in the right, what matters is that you used another person’s pain to lecture them and grandstand at them.

It would be a good idea for you to learn how to empathise with other people, because if you act like this to everyone you meet, then nobody will ever empathise with you.

@yassie_j @parisba ohh, I see. Yet another whiny response about the lack of empathy and politeness... That's life. No Backup - No Mercy !Nobody in big-tech cares about you as an Individuum. Sometimes we need to learn this the hard way. Take your (digital) life in your own hands. I'm so tired of people complaining about their self-imposed digital immaturity.

@DG1JAN what on earth is wrong with you that you would talk to someone in distress this way

@DG1JAN @yassie_j @parisba

Or, you can take your digital life seriously and not be a jackass about everyone else learning the hard way. Big tech doesn’t care, sure. However, your arrogance is 100% optional~

@DG1JAN I'm a Linux fan and user, but this is about commercial cloud storage, which is unrelated to OS or hardware. Anyone, Linux or not, can self-host or otherwise backup locally. (I'd be very surprised if that's somehow impossible with Apple.) Anyone storing anything in a cloud, no matter their local system, is doing business with some company for it.

I rolled my eyes so hard at this.
Linux bros are special.

Putting the 'pathetic' back into empathetic.

@DG1JAN

Hmm, that’s a strange observation. Not once did I do anything close to whining, in fact my reply to you was mostly rhetoric. Or are you so intellectually deficient that you cannot tell the difference?

@dngrs 100% ACK. But: "No backup, no mercy" - applies also to this issue. Greetings from the BOFH

@eniko grow up. The truth sometimes hurt. Unfortunately, digital resilience isn't fancy or easy like buying 🍏 product.

@eniko All evidence suggests that OP is a legal adult and not a child, and therefore capable of personal responsibility.

@DG1JAN my guy, i really don't think i'm the one here who has some growing up to do

@DG1JAN @eniko just because you kind of said the right thing doesn’t mean you weren’t incredibly rude about it. Growing up would be to have compassion on someone who probably didn’t even know better was an option at first

@DG1JAN @sinjut @parisba buddy... did you just use the lack of empathy in corporations to justify your own?

That's some next level... something...

@eniko

Fwiw, I rly had to refrain from roasting your reply guys. Apple is in the wrong obv. All the "but aktchally" in the world won't change that.

@eniko And yet, you keep offering useless comments. Which is what kids do.

Folks, if you're a legal adult, you have adult responsibilities and must make adult choices. Other parties have more limited liability towards you than they would towards non-adults, making your own choices more personally consequential.

Don't trust big companies to store your precious memories forever and never lose them, and back up what you can while you can, just in case.

See? That's a useful comment.

@thesylveon Yours is easily the most childish remark I've seen yet, and that's saying something. Really. Read it to yourself out loud, slowly. If you're not embarrassed, then you need a nap.

Adult choice like calling people who disagree with you children and gaslighting every person who has ever used a megacorporation product?

@rowan @parisba btw. If you have a second look, I also host my public project at and I'm running a private Forgejo instance for my own stuff.

I don't consider mastodon as important, so no need for self hosting. Prefer to support the radiosocial admin directly.
