I don’t get how Create became so popular. it’s so hard to do anything and even basic item processing is so intimidating T_T

I made a modpack for myself that specifically centers around Create and a few other mods like Crossroads, but I’ve been too scared to even touch Create itself lol

@kasdeya its kinda one of those mods where you need to dive into it and then you kinda see how cool it is?

@kasdeya having used Minecraft create, I feel it's of the same brain worms of mindustry and satisfactory. The appeal is of the motion of items on conveyor belts and rotation of gears and wheels. Create really shows motion into automation

I'm definitely lost on the templating system it has tho

@kasdeya I felt the same way at first, but I think it was just because Create enables you to build ridiculously complex stuff, and I'd seen YouTube videos where people built all sorts of incredible hyper-efficient machines. It's kind of an intimidating first experience with the mod, to see people who know how it all works build stuff with it.

But it turns out you can start pretty small too. Make a press, put a water wheel next to it, place water to flow under the wheel and boom, you have a machine that does stuff (in this case it was for making iron plates). And you can scale up slowly from there.

I spent a few days just playing with the basics, making a few little machines like that press where you basically just attach one block to a water wheel to make a thing that does stuff, before I even thought about linking things together for more complex machines.

I still haven't gotten into the autocrafting or logistics part of the mod yet. Taking it slow seems to be working for me.

@kasdeya Reply got too long and I forgot to address the first part of your post.

Create became popular because people like building machines that do things they can see as they happen. Cogs spinning and presses hammering and all the other moving parts and pieces. That's pretty much the main reason.

There are mods that are better than Create at most of the things it can do, and they're all far less complex to use. Crop and tree farms, item storage and logistics systems, tunnel bores and mining, etc. But none of them look as cool while doing it, and none of them are quite as effective at turning every problem into a logistics puzzle, which appeals to a lot of people.

@emberquill thank you for this! I was so worried about RPM and rotation direction and efficiently laying out the gears, and etc. but starting simply and using a new waterwheel for every device was exactly what I needed to start getting into the mod. I’ve actually been enjoying it a fair bit now! although it’s still really hard for me to make most things lol - even a basic auto-smelter or auto-cooker took me a lot of thought and experimenting. I also had to clear away a lot of space dedicated to Create tinkering since my machines always seem to take up way more space than I expect lol

@kasdeya Don't worry too much about inefficient design. Other than space and crafting material costs (and lag if you build something huge), it doesn't matter too much.

Create's power system is a fairly simple balancing act. There are producers like the water wheel (which each add a fixed amount of Stress Unit capacity) and consumers like mixers or presses (which consume an amount of SU that scales linearly with RPM). Everything in between like cogs and gearboxes and chain drives are effectively "free" and do not consume SU themselves.

But yeah, you'll probably end up using a lot of space for it, regardless. Create is not a particularly space-efficient mod.
