I just realized that the tech stuff I’m good at vs. bad at is mostly defined by cost. like I’m bad at hardware and microcontroller stuff because I can’t afford them. I’m good at writing code for desktop apps because I already have a computer so it’s free. I’m bad at server stuff because I can’t afford a server

although it’s also defined by how intimidated I am by something of course lol. like I tried to get into game dev and was immediately scared away by the immense complexity of everything, and the fact that you can’t really break it into digestible pieces - you kinda have to jump right into the deep end

@kasdeya this is something i think about a lot. i think it’s fantastic that so many children were able to get into computers at all because they were made significantly more accessible, but i wonder how many different kinds of artists, engineers, researchers, and any number of things are completely out of the hands of someone who would have otherwise excelled at and loved it

game dev tutorials be like: “okay now add a collider component”

“what’s a collider? what’s a component?”

“trust me bro. anyway copy-paste this C# code next”
