reading #ElderScrolls lore is wild because it’s either a really straightforward and easy-to-follow story with a footnote at the bottom about how it’s all fake, or it’s like

in the Second Winter of Shivering Time, central to the Meolithic era, Zanthurnikos did pierce upon e’raTra (which is the Delmatric upon which Re’etras is based) and begin the Age of Saint Malfarnikos who was blessed by the heart of the dream-corpse Lofankhish so that the Sundering could begin

@kasdeya at least Lofankhish’s flesh-divinity was cleaved in two in order to become the two moons

like okay I am genuinely really loving this lore but it’s clear that whoever wrote this stuff didn’t put any thought into how people would understand any of it lol. there are no books that just… Explain What Countries There Are or Explain What A Nede Is it’s all straight into the deep end

@rowan this almost makes sense to me?? like I saw a passing reference to something like this in one of the books and how magic comes from the moons somehow?? I think I’m going insane neocat_scream_scared /nsrs

@kasdeya (i’m not even kidding if Lofankhish was a name inspired by Lorkhan. he is the dead god of nirn and his “flesh-divinity” was split into the two moons, Masser and Secunda, which are the central objects of worship for the Khajiit)

@rowan that is fucking crazy omg. and it was! I’ve read that Lorkhan created the world and the other gods punished him for that by killing him. but I’ve also read that the world is Lorkhan’s dream, despite Lorkhan being dead. but then it wouldn’t make sense for Lorkhan to be physically present in the world if that’s the case

also omg it makes slightly more sense now why Khajiit are born in different forms depending on the phase of the moon(s)

@kasdeya Especially with the location names, the books really do just assume you live in Tamriel and can whip out a map or, ya know, just know where places are because you've been hearing about them for your whole life leafeon_giggle

There are some nice books that sort of hand-hold you through topics, but often, it's because that topic is the research topic of the author (my mind goes to On Oblivion, for a start frog_think )
