“what build are you going for?”
I’m just playing the game.
“you’re going to lose if you don’t have a build”
if I lose too much I’ll play a different game.
“why didn’t you put those points into dex?”
this is how I want to play the game.
“you realize that weapon isn’t meta, right?”
this is how I want to play the game.
“why would you waste your money on that item?”
this is how I want to play the game.
fuck everyone who ever made me feel like I was playing a game “wrong”. people like that have ruined entire genres for me
@desea ugh yeah - I think this happens in any game with character progression unfortunately. there’s always going to be a community that knows for 100% certain (in their minds, at least) what the “right” build(s) are and they’re probably going to be obnoxious about it
I never really got far in Undertale though so I don’t know too much about what’s possible there or what amount of character progression there is
@desea oohh that sounds really interesting. I’d love to try playing a game like that
one thing that I love about the anime BoFuri is that all of the characters have specced into wildly different things and most of them had no idea what they were doing when building their characters. and yet the game keeps rewarding them for playing how they want and they each get really really strong in totally different ways because of how they each chose to play the game
and I think that would be my ideal RPG - like just let me choose whatever stuff I vibe with at the moment, and trust the game to not only not punish me for making uninformed choices, but actually reward me for it by giving me cool abilities based on what I picked
