New character art post! Kevin Kupari finished a commission work for me, so here I go talking about another OC of mine!
Now this one doesn't have as much a name as most. They are mostly defined by what they are, rather than who. They are whom I use as a tutorial NPC for the Heaven / Hell tabletop system, as granted by their station as the purgatory gatekeeper. Every notable fighter that perishes gets sent to the purgatory, and they are there to bid them welcome and ensure that they have arrived to the correct place, that they possess the capacity to one day walk beyond the walls.
But then, what happens when the arrival is no longer fresh, has collected a wealth of experience and grown in strength in the ambient air of the purgatory? What of them when they are ready?
Then it is time for them to be tested.
When they come to the gatekeeper, they are called to their final test, to make sure they are ready to leave. They must defeat their first opponent once more. And this time, they are trying. The tabard burns in flame and a new weapon is donned. The Tier "0" sheet is changed for Tier 3 and a small smile graces the assessor's face. Beyond the purgatory, fame awaits. But only for those strong enough to survive out there.
@fargate oohhh - the concept of a tutorial NPC for a TTRPG is so interesting to me. I don’t think that ever would have occurred to me as an option. and I really like their character design too - I get a real sense of who they are just from how they look and pose
thanks for tagging me btw! 💙
@kasdeya The idea was born out of the struggle a friend and I initially had getting into the system, figuring out all the technique tags and their interactions and whatnot. But with how the system operated, they really needed the context of a fight around them to sink in, I felt.
Well, cue this person's inception! One day it hit me, and I drew them in my mind and wrote both versions of their sheet, to ensure continuity in progression. First one of its kind for me too, though I haven't actually got around to using them yet, as I didn't have them with me when I demo'd the system at a convention. Had a lot of other fighters though!
@fargate omg you actually go to TTRPG conventions and demo systems? that would absolutely terrify me lol but I bet you can meet a lot of really cool people that way! and you must be so comfortable using TTRPG systems (not to mention improvising and roleplaying) to be able to do that
@kasdeya I do! I love to share my love for things with people, especially if said thing is something that would usually fly under the radar. I do try to learn at least the basics really well ahead of time, and to allow myself to make mistakes in niche situations. Kicking myself in the head afterwards doesn't help anybody
