whelp the Steam community is toxic as ever

I’ve been posting feedback for nextfest demos on the Steam community forums and people (not the devs) have been replying with stuff like “lol your PC is shit” and “how can you play in such a stupid way”

I guess next time I’m going to see if I can contact the devs directly

apparently my CPU is 13 years old, which explains why Electron apps run like dogshit for me lol

also someone was able to tell that I have DDR3 RAM somehow, just because I posted how much RAM I have? that was spooky and also fuck that guy

The internet is like this sometimes, isn't it...

They might have guessed DDR3 if you had mentioned your CPU model, or if you have <4GB RAM sticks, which are typically DDR3.

@sqrtminusone ohh are some CPUs only compatible with certain DDRs? I don’t know much about PC hardware (I haven’t been able to meaningfully upgrade my PC in a very long time) but yeah I did mention my CPU model! I had no idea it was so old tbh. that explains why I get such bad performance on Minecraft too

and yeah omg I hate the Steam community so much. like they fucking Sherlock Holmesed their way to finding as many things to make me feel bad about as possible

I mentioned that I’ve never gotten to max level in World of Warcraft (because I was giving feedback for Fellowship and I thought it was important context) and someone was like “but it literally only takes 8 hours? how can you be so bad at the game” and first of all

• I play on a MoP private server so it’s probably more like 32+ hours idk. it’s a long grind and I lose interest around WoTLK
• I just genuinely don’t care about increasing my numbers, which is exactly what I said in my post

@kasdeya steam users are the fuckin' worst, i'd be fuckin' thrilled that somebody with such "old" hardware's giving feedback on a game
like, awesome, here's somebody helping the devs better understand how to optimize their game and how stuff plays at minimum specs!

@eclairwolf thank you! and yeah tbh I really just want the game to be playable for people like me - I’ve been able to uncover all kinds of weird performance problems that they probably wouldn’t realize are so bad otherwise

@kasdeya 8 hours is like hyper optimized speed running, so possible but dumb to expect that from a new player. Hell, I took more than 8 hours to level from 70 to 80, because I actually wanted to enjoy the game, not just to have a max level character.

(Also MOP leveling takes significantly longer than retail.)

Anyways, all that is to say: What a fucking asshole.

@kasdeya @sqrtminusone Yeah, the motherboard and CPU determine which kinds of RAM are supported as well as the maximum speed of that RAM. The last time I upgraded my CPU and motherboard was because I wanted to use DDR-4 RAM but the ones I had only supported DDR-3.

Steam forums are truly awful though. About as bad as Reddit, in my experience. Packed full of elitists and drama-stirrers.

@Shivaekul thank you - that helps to hear tbh. also omg so that guy was literally just humblebragging about his ultra epic optimized WoW leveling strats - that makes it so much worse. definitely such an asshole omg

@kasdeya Right, and DDR4 isn't backwards compatible with DDR3, so you won't find a motherboard with a socket supporting your processor and a DDR4 slot.

I've been trying to reproduce my setup on a Raspberry lately, so I feel your pain to an extent :D I would've been doing a lot differently if it were my only option.

Electron is certainly a no-go, not sure about Minecraft. I did play it on a weak PC maybe 12 years ago, and setting low rendering distance pretty much allowed to play normally. But maybe it was less demanding then.

And, yeah, some people are out just to hurt others, it seems D: I do somewhat struggle to understand why it happens; like, it doesn't even feel good in the moment... Maybe it's like when you're angry, it kinda pulls you in even though it hurts. But can so many people lack basic awareness to fall for that...
