apparently it takes the average WoW player less than a week to reach max level? and that’s without looking at guides

I didn’t think that I was playing WoW in a way that was particularly slow or inefficient but this really puts my playstyle into perspective to be honest. I sometimes play for 2-3 weeks at a time before quitting for a while again, and at no point have I ever reached max level. in fact the furthest I’ve gotten on any character is WotLK, and this was on a 3x XP private server

@kasdeya fwiw it took a metric fuckton of time to level before the more recent expansions, and anybody who does 1-80 in a week, even with 3x xp, is absolutely not doing things like "sleeping" or "going to work"

@kasdeya i have no idea what the actual Real Player Experience is like for retail bc i don't really fw blizzard anymore, but the game's far faster xp curve + addition of heirlooms + chromie time + optimized routes / classes / etc got 1-70 down to like three hours in the latest expack (and i would imagine that 70-80 is several hours on top of that) (also they squished the levels down on account of the math breaking down bc of Too Many Fucking Levels so the max is 80 now)

@eclairwolf woahh reaching the latest expansion in 3 hours is fucking wild omg. but also I forgot all about chromie time! I only just recently switched from a Pandaria private server to a Legion one lol so I’m just enjoying having level scaling at all lol. but chromie time seems like such a good idea ngl

@kasdeya i remember playing for like... at least a year solid and never quite getting past level 40

(of course i did also have alt-itis)

@kasdeya I played back before Burning Crusade, took me a month to get to the second Allied region before giving up and never returning... Less than a week to go through all of the current content? Literally how?

I still play vanilla and I always liked how long it takes to reach max level there. A couple of months at least, even when playing daily. Sure, there are some players who can reach max level in a few days even on vanilla, but we call those "speed runners" and not "average" 😄

@ninafelwitch it is! I guess they’ve increased the XP rates a lot in retail, but also I think I just play very suboptimally because I don’t read guides or try to maximize my DPS or anything

@ninafelwitch also omg a few months to reach max level sounds like a lot even to me, but I kinda respect that too. it sounds like reaching max level actually means something in vanilla instead of it being the expected outcome after a little bit of concentrated effort in order to “get to the real game”
