I think you’ll find that D&D lets you become one of 10-18 races and one of 12-36 classes and do heroic fantasy with turn-based tactical combat. and only those things

@kasdeya mechanically, yes. But it's a TTRPG. People homebrew stuff frequently. Some content made for the system add their own stuff to it. One way I accomodate players is they can take the aesthetic they want but mechanically we'll go with what's closest in the game. I am just not really willing to handle homebrew stuff yet but you find a middle ground so they can have their character but mechanically it's not hard to figure out.
