oof, I’ve finally encountered a game that my 13-year-old CPU just can’t run. unfortunately it’s the Oblivion remaster, which I was pretty excited about. so… that sucks
I’m honestly still pretty upset about this. it’s like once every 5 years that a high-profile game comes out that I’d probably actually enjoy but there’s no way I’m going to be able to play this until the capitalism gods decide to bless me with a fucking job already it’s been years and I’ve applied to hundreds of them what the fuck
I am like two more months away from just fucking robbing banks or something /nsrs
@kasdeya Awwwww, that really is hard :(
@kasdeya Do you have to do a whole architecture upgrade to upgrade the CPU? I was there for a long time, cause it is so much harder than just replacing one component! (I still technically haven't upgraded "my" computer, but a buddy was getting rid of a computer that was better than mine so that has been my new gaming PC.) Really unfun spot to be, where you kinda lose some of the savings from doing it yourself.
@Shivaekul yeah, unfortunately I’m stuck with a really old architecture so it seems like (I don’t know much about hardware but this is the impression I got) I’ll have to replace my motherboard, RAM, and CPU at minimum in order to upgrade it. which seems like it’s going to be a lot of money that I don’t have and won’t be able to get :/
@kasdeya Yeah, that is where I was too. Probably DDR3 RAM? (That was the case for me.) That is like 2 generations behind, so you might be able to find something secondhand or on sale, but still a very big lift. That is the worst :(
@Shivaekul oof DDR3 is two generations behind? and yeah that’s exactly what I’m using. to be honest the most I can afford is maybe $200, but even then I would have to save up for probably 2+ months, and it sounds like there’s no way I’ll be able to upgrade my system for so little :/ but I’m still doing what I can to try to find work so I’m hoping I’ll be able to upgrade eventually
@kasdeya Yeah, current gen uses DDR5 RAM, around 2020ish. But you could also probably go up one generation and be able to play most games for the next several years again, so that gives you a little more options for deals. I don't know what the used parts market is near you, but could be an option, or watching out for sales, since the biggest sales are normally on stuff that is a bit older. But still going to be a struggle and pushing the budget. I'm sorry 🫂. Hopefully you will be able to find some work and that will help!
