faerie:
@kasdeya Hm, yeah, this confirms it, Marquis Auverloupe of my menagerie of characters is definitely a faerie. Always liked the feel of that word more, and here we perhaps see why. I've seen it in the correct context for him.
He's an Alicorntaur. Pegasi wings, unicorn horn, tall and uncannily slender humanoid upper body. Spring court, all sunshine and rainbows as far as appearances go. His most usual punishment to those that do him wrong is to simply ignore him and leave them yearning. Though he doesn't keep many pets aside from his automata, but we shall allow such a deviation.
@kasdeya so Jhudora. you're describing Jhudora. that absolutely tracks
(neopets reference)
@fargate oohhh. it sounds like this character captures exactly what I love about fae. so he’s able to create automata to serve him?
also I’m guessing that there are four courts in this world instead of (what I assume is) the usual two? I’m curious how they differ from each other. is the winter court still more overtly cruel/malicious than the summer court?
@liese omg I looked her up and it extremely seems like it. so she gives people cursed-looking artifacts that I assume seem helpful on the surface but also have dangerous downsides? I’m ngl I really like her vibe lol
your description of a faerie is just,,, hnnn,, awawwa,,,
@pharmafemboy I am ngl that is exactly the kind of being that I aspire to be. so glad you like the idea~ 💙
Create, construct, mould, what have you. Yes, he has something of a liking towards patterns that resemble splashing water captured in the medium of metal, and the overly elaborate automata designs reflect that. They are rather specialised in what they each do, but with a sufficient number of them there's little that doesn't get done.
As for the number of courts, I had always thought there should be four, one for each season, what with two being Summer and Winter didn't quite click. Winter remains the cold and cruel mistress that it is, whereas Summer in comparison is more languid and on the surface friendly sort. Spring and Autumn fall between them, with Spring being more busy and lots of it focusing on the blooming and beauty winning over the gloom and doom, whilst Autumn takes more after the slower side of Summer. They are more silent, more contemplative, and have a close relationship with death. Just less so for bringing folk to it.
@kasdeya jhudora was some kids' awakening i guarantee it
@fargate oohh I’m picturing what his automata would look like and they sound like they have an alien beauty as well
also I like your take on the faerie courts! your take on autumn, especially, is exactly what I had envisioned: a milder, quieter, and more contemplative court that’s still connected with death, though not quiet as much as winter
@kasdeya No Spring court member in their right mind would be seen with boring servants, so having that faerie beauty on the automata is a requirement to him indeed. They are also surprisingly bendy, which makes them appear more fluid than they actually are in motion.
And thank you! Makes me feel like I should flesh them out more, though knowing me it's not going to happen until I write with someone about them in some manner. Still not big on being a solo author!
@fargate aww yeah that’s very fair. I hope that someday I can start roleplaying again and doing collaborative creativity in general because I really miss that, and I think you’d be amazing for both. and also I can think of lots of fun (and “fun”) situations to explore with Auverloupe 💙
@kasdeya We may hope! Do be aware that I don't hold friends to strict requirements, so trying and failing is okay and won't hurt down the line
