if you had never played a Soulslike game before and you saw a boss slam their weapon heavily into the ground, how big would you expect the hitbox to be?
I ask because one of my partners told me that it’s actually a video game trope for slamming attacks to deal an AoE, but that’s not something that happens in video games that I play so I was taken by surprise by that (just like how I was taken by surprise, and assumed it was a glitch, that slamming attacks in Dark Souls 1 deal a moderate-to-large AoE)
@kasdeya We see this a lot in MMO's for larger Bosses and ARPG's like POE. I think the Trial called The Navel, when the boss thumps the ground it does full screen AOE?

@kasdeya definitely expect an anime-level shockwave anywhere from weapon reach radius (measure) on average to sometimes half the arena
@kasdeya At least twice the diameter of the model, and it'll take half my health even after the animation's finished
@kasdeya For Sure, when I was doing endgame raiding all I was doing was dodging and healing like Crazy :)
@kasdeya If it just makes the normal expected vfx (a bit of sparks or a dust cloud) I'd expect it to be a little bigger
If there is a very substantial impact vfx (ground shockwave, visible rough of air etc) I'd expect the hitbox to be a bit bigger than that vfx
@kasdeya I have never played a soulslike game before.
For me it probably depends on VFX.
By default I might expect the hitbox to be the size of the wielder or the weapon, unless indicated differently. Something like a red warning radius or some particles reaching to the edge of the hitbox
@kasdeya I’d expect the hitbox to be just big enough to somehow still hit my and last for just a bit longer than the iframes of the roll I timed properly, I promise, I am good at this game…
