someone out there is definitely going to get on my case about the radio chatter I’m writing at the moment and lecture me about how wrong it is. I can hear it now. “military don’t talk like that”

but whoever does this fails to consider the much more important and obvious factor: I don’t care

@kit I hate people like this. it costs $0 to just let artists make art and shut the fuck up if you don’t like it. I can understand complaining about some big-budget movie but not something made out of pure passion by someone who just wants to create things and put them into the world

(I don’t post art publicly anymore because of stuff like this T_T)

@kasdeya honestly I kind of get where these types of people are coming from some of the time, because I know some of them complain more out of passion for the thing they’re interested in rather than a particular desire to complain. I used to be this person for anything involving cars, and I still have plenty of Thoughts™ about car stuff in media whenever I see it that I just don’t say out loud anymore (or as often, at least)

a healthy dose of not caring is good for everyone if you ask me. good for the artists so they can let stupid comments roll off their backs, and good for the audience so they can zip their lip more often and just enjoy what’s in front of them as it is

I like to think I’ve got pretty thick skin so I can handle annoying comments, at least long enough to block and subsequently forget the particularly bad ones who really do just love to complain and be angry. more generally, I just don’t take these types of comments seriously unless I specifically asked for it. sometimes I actually kind of enjoy getting people riled up at me when it’s over some nonsense that absolutely doesn’t matter, like radio chatter, because it’s funny to push people’s buttons and waste their time and energy on me, taking me seriously when I’m being silly

if anything, in some cases, I might actually appreciate these kinds of comments if they’re constructive, or at least cordial, because if I am trying to portray something in an especially realistic manner, feedback from people with the relevant interest or experience is wonderful. but at least for now, the only thing I have any interest in treating that way is cars (which I’m already my own annoying “expert” about), and this is just one of the many cases where I don’t care at all. ace combat has the best radio chatter ever and it’s so unrealistic that the only people willing to complain out loud about it already have their heads higher in the clouds than those jets fly, and that series is my primary inspiration for a lot of things, this among them

(the type of comments that do get under my skin are the ones that make it abundantly clear that they just plain didn’t read the text and are pretending to understand it anyway, speaking authoritatively with no legs to stand on. those, and the painfully neurotypical ones, if you know what I mean. those people make it hard for me to want to keep sharing sometimes, but I will always persist if only to spite them)

(wow, this reply got way bigger than I intended. whoops)
