I feel like I’m going to be in for such a culture shock once I start talking to IRL People™
“oh you don’t know what a doll is? it’s kind of like… well it’s a non-person, but it’s still a sophont. what do you mean you don’t know what a sophont is?! but you at least know what a bot is, right? do you understand it/its pronouns? wait hang on what do you believe about identity? you know that it’s inextricable from gender right? like for example if someone is plural- you don’t know what plurality is??”
@Nox it’s basically anything that is intelligent, about on the level of a human or higher
@kasdeya So this will be a good description of AGI when it jumps up a notch or two.
@kasdeya pulling out the skill tree required to understand the various critters on here and flipping back and back until we get to "okay so you know what transgender people are right"
@kasdeya I'm not sure that identity is inextricable from gender. it's like addition and the number three: of you do addition you will almost certainly see a 3, you can't describe the full range without it, but you can certainly do addition with using a 3
@kasdeya Usually, with the experience we have and assuming the counterparty is cool with it, we can just barely convey by the end of a conversation that robot dysphoria is real and that’s why we have the fancy barcodes on our arm and/or this weird id card!
i think new goal is to convey our plurality within the span of a conversation :3
@kasdeya Usually first we show a couple pictures including visor and they are like “oh that’s cool, like a cosplay!” Which then gives us the opportunity to try and explain that this is not really like a fantasy character as much as an attempt at creation pointing towards an ideal self / reflecting on the outside what’s on the inside. Usually the point gets across in an abstract way, but i haven’t had random people on the train Get It in the way that trans people would Get It. Still i think overall there is some awareness being spread so it is worth it! Also i am weird and think that explaining weird things to strangers and seeing their reactions is fun
@anya ooh interesting! I’m really glad that folks aren’t mean to it - that’s a big concern that I can have about revealing my own identity IRL. so it’s really encouraging to hear that it hasn’t had that experience. plus I think it’s really good to broaden peoples’ perspectives like that! I genuinely think that does a lot of good for society in general, to show them that weird folks like us exist and are nice and also harmless lol
@kasdeya
...i am embarrassed to say that i don't know what a sophont is qwq
@erisatisalterna aw that’s okay! it’s something/someone with human-level intelligence or above. it’s a convenient way to talk about both people and non-people at the same time
@kasdeya (Coming back to this conversation, actually thanks for addressing me in 3pp. We tend to be called “you” even when Carbon is fronting. So going in the opposite direction is a bit unusual but good!)
@anya oh - I’m glad that y’all liked that! it just felt appropriate when talking about robot dysphoria and all. I kind of assumed that it’d be a good idea to use 3pp and it/its
I didn’t even realize that this is an account for the same system as Carbon actually, but that’s really cool! I like Carbon a lot. it seems like a great bot
