herbal tea is fucking gross

unsweetened, it’s marginally better than just drinking hot water but it just kinda tastes like plant juice

and it’s somehow so much worse when you sweeten it. I can’t explain why but something about adding sugar flips it in my head from “someone put random weird plants in my hot water” to “this is definitely some kind of poison”

@kasdeya what kind of herbal tea? I'm personally quite fond of chamomile with peppermint.

@kasdeya This might sound mean but I dislike all tea. The water is just way too fucking hot when people usually drink, and the taste is repulsive to me, idk. It's just so thin, and weird, I uhughgh ><

@kasdeya Honey vs Sugar makes a surprising difference in how it feels to me. Sugar is a no, but honey to me pairs well (with some).

@konstruct @kasdeya iced tea or no tea for me which almost got me disowned by my primarily South Pacific family

@nico @kasdeya oh, I kinda like the industrial super sweet iced tea, but let's be real, that's not tea, that's just fancy soda.

@codingcoyote chamomile is one of the ones that I’ve tried but I’ve been thinking that there might be others out there that I’ll like more. like I have a ginger and turmeric one that I haven’t decided if I like or not. it’s very strange-tasting but I think I kinda like it? I think I also want to try anise or fennel because I like their flavor in other things

@konstruct yeah tbh there’s something calming about holding a hot thing in my hands but in order to drink it I have to wait for it to cool down to the point that it’s just tepid, which makes it grosser for me I think

@kasdeya Maybe try honey instead of sugar? Tends to taste better, at least to me.

That said, I've tried two chamomile teas (one had spearmint and lemon grass, the other had cinnamon and hibiscus) and didn't really like either of them.

The herbal teas I drink tend to be heavily flavored with fruit. There's one that has hibiscus, but it also has orange peel, blackberries, raspberries, and rosehips. Tastes decent on its own but much better with a small spoonful of honey.

@kasdeya i hated herbal tea until i tried loose tea (instead of tea bags). this is absolutely not some kinda tea nerd thing, you can get the cheapest metal sive for your cup and it'll work (the difference between those are really just ease of use and cleaning imo).
fun fact: they tend to put twigs and other parts of the plant that don't taste as good in tea bags because they're allowed to. in loose tea that's much more unlikely because, well, you can see the stuff your brewing.
