traumadumping IRL vs. in movies
Show content

a person: *traumadumps*

everyone: why would you do that? that’s so inconsiderate. you could really hurt us emotionally. we don’t have the energy for this emotional labor

a movie or TV show: *traumadumps for multiple hours in a way that is precision-engineered to be as viscerally upsetting as possible*

everyone: wow what a masterpiece of storytelling. so emotional. it ruined my entire day. 10/10 I’ll recommend this to all my friends

I don’t understand

what I really want most after a long day of trying to cope with my own trauma is to be viscerally confronted with imaginary trauma that isn’t even real. I’m so glad that all mainstream entertainment decided to move in this direction for the past 20 years so that that is almost the only option available to me
