"it's too important to CW" and other phrases that constitute begging to be spritzed in the face with a spray bottle

@smolcasm in any case people can easily opt out of it by blocking the user doing that

this post was not an invitation for reply guys to explain why having poor posting etiquette is good actually. be better

@smolcasm For a single moment of pettiness I wanted to reply “Okay” to the ‘then block me’ guy, wait for it to federate, then block him.

Instead I just blocked him. Decided the best response to ragebait is no response.

@LiraK @smolcasm there used to be a proper feature for CW-boosting? I always just do it manually, by making a new post that links to the post I want to boost

@smolcasm Mastodon needs to allow CW'd and sensitive posts to trend, and give us the ability to blur link previews.

@alice @smolcasm Is... is it a *software* limitation??? D: I always thought it was that the majority of Mastodon users don't like CWs.

Triply glad I moved to an instance that disabled that "feature" (the trending tab)

@azure it's a design choice, and one I disagree with.

I like the trending tab though—the algorithm is simple and doesn't push or hide anything.

@azure yep, mastodon gives post with any sensitive content zero trending score

https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/blob/a44a3f6d4047568921469ff9fbd212f553b1e7f4/app/models/trends/statuses.rb#L94

Looks like it should be configurable by admin, gonna look if anyone filed an issue already...

@azure didn't found anything, so created it myself

Feel free to react, discuss and spread :)

@alice @smolcasm It's certainly better than it could be! It's not very healthy for me, but I see how it could be good for other people.

@alice ugh that's such a terrible design choice. why would you discourage using the CW system????
