okay so it looks like the malware has actually corrupted Windows Defender and is still here after all, so I’m going to have to reinstall Windows from scratch and restore my files from a backup, and hopefully the backup hasn’t been infected too
I’m working on getting an ISO burned to my USB drive but all I have is my Arch laptop which is currently Linuxing™ really hard (taking fucking forever to install an ISO burning tool called Ventoy) so I’m just kinda sitting around waiting :/
it has been an absolutely horrible process but I finally have Windows 10 reinstalled! and it’s the IoT LTSC version now so I should get security updates for another 10 years
@hellpie wow - you make a really, really good case for just switching to Windows 11, which thankfully my new hardware can do actually (I didn’t realize this but apparently my CPU has a built-in TPM, which I didn’t even know was a thing)
I’m exhausted after setting everything up on Windows 10, but tomorrow I’m going to see if I can transfer everything over to Windows 11 without having to set it all up again
