man every time I find a cool shooter on steam I check the reviews and it’s like

“the devs spat on my dog. they haven’t updated the game in 4000 years. it uses a rootkit that makes your computer melt through the floor like thermite. also it’s pay-to-win.”

I would actually be very interested in trying Valorant, Honkai Star Rail, and Genshin Impact but unfortunately they all have rootkits that are always active, even when you aren’t playing the game (that’s probably for the best though)

@kasdeya same, even with the gacha, I want to check out Genshin and Honkai for the characters and music, but I quit League when they put the kernal-level anticheat and I'm not about to start any that have them blobfox_nauseous

@OctaviaConAmore honestly I was the same way at first but I’ve had to cave because I think basically every multiplayer game released after 2020 or so has kernel-level anticheat and I hate that that’s become so common

so instead I only play games that have kernel-level anticheat that terminates when the game does

@kasdeya genshin & honkai afaik can be ran without those on linux. their rootkit is honorary, as far as i read up on it, you can just Not load it, and the game runs fine. some people maintain a 3rd party launcher that does that for you and manages updates and all

@yukijoou aw, unfortunately I’m not on Linux but I’m really glad that Linux users have that option tbh

@kasdeya They really should just offer a mode that permanently disables ranking for the account but otherwise removes the need for anticheat malware.
