@Shivaekul it really is, and I feel like privileged people in the US are just completely blind to it. but it’s just so dehumanizing and demoralizing to be stuck in this catch-22, especially when my basic quality-of-life is on the line
@kasdeya Sorry, I deleted my post because I was worried I was being too negative, but I'm glad (or maybe sad instead) to hear you understood.
Yeah, it feels like our society just doesn't acknowledge the consequences for all these "economic" decisions, or how hard they make things on people.
And then yeah, literally existing takes money, so when people won't give you a job, it's kinda like... WTF do you expect me to do? It's terrible.
@Shivaekul awww I think you’re allowed to be negative just like anyone else. but yeah, living in Texas I just feel this crushing sense that absolutely no one cares about me, and I hate that so much
and yeah I feel like people in the US are quick to blame people like me for being poor and desperate and without any options or agency in life - as if we must’ve done something wrong to “deserve” this and I think that that entire attitude is disgusting
but I’m glad that you can understand too. it’s comforting to be reminded that there are others who feel this way
@kasdeya Ah, yeah, that sounds absolutely miserable. I feel lucky to be from California sometimes (despite us still having a ton of issues too). The level of self-sabotage and hate in some of the states is very scary and disheartening, I can see that being very hard to deal with.
And yeah, it is fucked up that we think it is reasonable for people to sacrifice workers (via layoffs) rather than risk corporate profits, which go straight to rich people. And then when there are not enough jobs, it is especially hard for those without experience. And then again we normalize treating people as a "market", rather than as deserving of a basic level of dignity. (And then into this situation we are firing government workers, rather than reallocating resources towards are workers.) I think it is disgusting that we have chosen wealth over people. And then yeah, rather than have to face ourselves for allowing that decision, we pretend it is the individual's fault, not our system's.) (Sorry for my rant... this just drives me crazy that everyone acts like this is normal or acceptable.)
So yes haha, I appreciate the reassurance too :)
@Shivaekul aw I honestly really appreciate the rant - it’s so validating. I hope you’re not in a position where you have to face too much of this unfairness yourself, but either way I’m at least glad that it bothers others too - that it’s not just me trying to fight against a tidal wave of apathy and victim-blaming in order to have my basic needs met. that other people genuinely do understand that this is wrong and unfair and that we can do better
@kasdeya I am in a place of comparative privilege, but the system still sucks and drags on all of us. I drafted and then decided not to send another rant, but I do hope that enough people can believe that better is possible and band together to make it happen. We need better.
