the bar for being a movie that I like is so far on the floor lol it literally just has to:

  • not hurt me
  • have one of:
    • a character I relate to (almost unheard of)
    • an aesthetic I like
    • writing/worldbuilding that I like

most of the movies that I like are considered bad movies and I think that’s because if a movie were considered “good” by the average person then it would hurt me, because “good” generally means that it evokes very strong emotions

I think the bar is much higher if it’s anything that involves reading or playing a game because those take effort and concentration for me but watching a movie is effortless. so that’s why I have exactly zero patience for visual novels or any dialog-heavy or story-heavy game but movies literally just have to Not Hurt

also anything that takes a significant time investment (a story-based game or a TV series) also feels like it requires conscious effort for me because I don’t want to be partway through and completely confused about what’s going on. so those generally intimidate me into not even trying to play/watch them lol

@desea yeah - any kind of fiction book definitely does. with nonfiction it’s way easier for me to keep track of things because generally speaking you don’t need a ton of background info in order to know what the current chapter is about. but fiction books really intimidate me lol - I generally avoid them, but there are still some that I absolutely love

@desea that’s a good point! I definitely really like reading short horror stories on r/nosleep, at least
