awww they’re writing the new Perfect Dark like a thriller. that means it’s 100% going to be triggering for me. I hate seeing my favorite games getting remade into games that I actively can’t play
just once, I want to play and enjoy a popular game, while it’s popular. I want to know what that’s like, and I hate that that’s never happened. and I was really hoping that the Perfect Dark remake would be that game
also I hate that every modern story has to dial the emotions up to 11. it feels like modern storytelling is being evaluated based on how strongly it can evoke emotions (mostly negative) in its audience. so they have to make this story incredibly dramatic and traumatic and emotionally manipulative so that it will be a Good Story. they don’t want people to complain about how Perfect Dark has a “bad story” so they just have to do this
I loved Perfect Dark’s story (the old one) because it didn’t take itself too seriously, but it also wasn’t all ironic and lampshady and selfaware. it was just a fun lighthearted story full of weird ideas. it felt like every level had the devs going “wouldn’t it be cool if this happened next?” and just going with it, and I miss that kind of storytelling. I miss when video game stories could just be harmless and fun
