some PR guy for Doom: The Dark Ages: “and if you’re a long-time fan, then you’ll be proud to see [that] in a lot of ways, the feel of the game is really a return to form […] just like in the classic Doom games”

oh no they kept the fucking glory kill system and they’re so damn proud of how mechanically complex they’re making this game. I hate them. they design Doom games like it’s fucking Diablo 3 and spamming 13 different abilities 6 times a second is actually fun somehow

“Dark Ages has some of the most ridiculously powerful weapons that we’ve ever created”

*said over a video of enemies casually tanking 2 seconds of plasma gun spam without even flinching and the whole gunplay seems to be emphasizing how fucking weak it is*

it looks like they have really granular difficulty settings for this game and I really appreciate that but like

literally all they had to do was copy the gameplay loop of Doom 1 and 2. they’ve had three games to do this. what the fuck is wrong with them T_T

“we’ve taken the narrative out of the codex and into the cutscenes”

I am going to burn down id software’s offices

the gunplay in this game looks like absolute dogshit btw. especially the weird double-barreled plasma gun with its weak-ass “ptew ptew” sound design, incredibly low damage, and frustratingly slow fire rate

also they added a mech and called it a “power fantasy” and I understand that mechs are large and physically powerful but I am having a really hard time imagining how being inside of a mech could play into someone’s power fantasy

@kasdeya something something, "mech pilots are gender"

@kasdeya that said . . . we are very skeptical that they can pull off mech gameplay that well in doom, modern or classic

also it looks like they added a maze of overcomplicated progression systems in this game too and I just want to say:

Doom (1993) is my favorite action-RPG. I loved in E2M8 when I spent 200 Arcane Shards™ to prestige-unlock the Electronics Expert perk and gain +1% plasma gun fire-rate per second to a maximum of +10% just in time to counteract the Cyberdemon’s -10% damage reduction for energy weapons. that was very good Doom (1993) gameplay
